This Italian Heritage Month, we proudly celebrate the incredible generosity and community leadership of the Toldo family.

Through the Toldo Family Foundation's transformative $1.5 million gift, the Toldo Outpatient Rehabilitation Centre is helping patients access specialized rehabilitation, supporting recovery and quality of life for countless individuals across Windsor-Essex. We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Leonardo “Len” Cortese on June 12, 2026.

For over two decades, Dr. Cortese was a passionate advocate for mental health and a driving force behind transformative care in our community. From founding the Wellness Program for Extended Psychosis (W-PEP) to helping establish the Toldo Neurobehavioural Institute (TNI), his vision and leadership have left a lasting legacy at HDGH and throughout our community.

He inspired countless colleagues, students, and patients, and worked tirelessly to raise awareness and break stigma around brain health. He proudly shared his passion through teaching future medical professionals, generous philanthropy such as through the Big Night Gala, and music, performing with his band, the Tragically O’Hip, to support mental health causes.

Beyond his professional impact, Len will be remembered for his warmth, his joy for life, and his deep love for his family.

His influence will endure in the lives he touched and the care he helped shape. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and all who had the privilege of knowing him. 💜

Moving for Better Heart Health on Senior Health & Fitness Day 💪
At HDGH’s Bob Probert Tecumseh Campus, Cardiac Wellness patients recently took part in a 30‑day Activity Challenge—proving that it’s never too late to build healthy habits and stay active.
Participants tracked their daily movement, encouraged one another, and celebrated their progress together. The result? Stronger connections, greater accountability, and a shared sense of accomplishment.
Initiatives like this highlight how staying active can support heart health at every stage of life—especially for older adults.
