Flags at all Greater Essex County District School Board schools and facilities have been lowered to half-mast in honour of the victims of the tragic fire at CFB Wainwright.

We join Canadians across the country in mourning the lives lost and extend our deepest condolences to their families, loved ones and all those affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are also with those who remain hospitalized, and we wish them strength and healing.

In moments of profound loss and devastation, we are reminded of the importance of coming together as a community and supporting one another.

On October 21st, a group of SHSM students from Vincent Massey Secondary School's Health & Wellness program stepped into the heart of senior care during an immersive Sector Partner Experience (SPE) at The Villages at St Clair.

Hosted by Schlegel Villages, this event offered students a deep dive into the unique design and community-focused layout of a modern Long-Term Care home. Beyond the layout, students focused on the human element, engaging in authentic conversations with residents to learn about their diverse life stories and daily needs.

The experience culminated in a ICE creative challenge: students worked in small teams to design and pitch new programming ideas to the Schlegel Villages administration. By blending empathy with innovation, these students not only gained professional insight into the healthcare sector but also contributed fresh perspectives on enhancing resident life.

On October 21, 2026, students from Leamington District Secondary School's M.A.P.S. program volunteered their time at Hospice – Erie Shores Campus, helping with fall maintenance of the beautifully landscaped property.

Students demonstrated outstanding teamwork and a strong work ethic while making a positive impact in their community.

Thank you to Hospice – Erie Shores Campus for providing this meaningful opportunity for students to give back and connect with community partners. Lions Proud! 🦁

🚌 School Bus Safety Week | October 19–23, 2026

Today’s school bus safety tip focuses on School Bus Etiquette!

Good behaviour helps everyone enjoy a safe, comfortable ride. Students can do their part by:

✅ Arriving at the bus stop on time and waiting safely.
✅ Following the driver’s instructions.
✅ Finding a seat quickly and staying seated while the bus is moving.
✅ Keeping backpacks, feet, and other belongings out of the aisle.
✅ Using quiet voices and treating the driver and fellow students with respect.
✅ Waiting until the bus has stopped completely before getting up to leave.

Safe, respectful choices help the driver stay focused and ensure every student arrives safely.

Be ready. Be respectful. Ride safely.

Every school day, our school bus drivers help students travel safely and start and end their day with a familiar face. School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is a wonderful opportunity to recognize their care, patience, and commitment.

International Pronouns Day is observed each year on the third Wednesday of October. Using the pronouns that someone determines for themselves is a basic human right. By respecting pronouns, we contribute to creating safer, more welcoming communities for everyone.
