Museum Windsor = François Baby House, the Chimczuk Museum and the Duff Baby House It is open periodically for tours and events, and also by appointment.

The newly rebranded Museum Windsor (previously Windsor's Community Museum) consists of the François Baby House at 254 Pitt St. W. , the Chimczuk Museum at 401 Riverside Drive W., and the Duff Baby House at 221 Mill Street. The Chimczuk Museum features exhibitions detailing the whole history of Windsor and area from early geologic time through the present. The Chimczuk Museum site also features sep

arate exhibitions on Indigenous peoples, a Hands-on-History room for children and temporary exhibitions. The François Baby House has free admission and is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sundays (May-September) 2-5pm. Baby House exhibitions highlight the French origins of this area, and the War of 1812 and the Battle of Windsor. The Duff-Baby House was built in 1798 and is It is recognized among the most significant late eighteenth-century landmarks in Upper Canada. Les Amis Duff-Baby, a local volunteer group, works with Museum Windsor to provide access to the centre, the house, and the site. Museum staff utilize this facility for public tours, community outreach programs, local heritage meetings, and other Sandwich Town community activities.

Compass
Used on the Jo-Anna (or Johanna) scow-schooner skippered by Jerome Cadet (1852-1936). At one time the ship made deliveries to Hiram Walkers. It was built by the Thibert scow-builders of Belle River. The ship was owned at one time by a Ouellette of Windsor.

The dwelling Moy Hall – named for the ancestral home of the clan Mackintosh in Scotland and built at the end of the 18th century by Angus Mackintosh, a Scots trader – gave its name to Moy Avenue in Windsor. Have you ever shopped at the N&D Supermarket?

Here is a close up image from that grocery store! N&D supermarkets were founded by Nikola (Nick) Budimir and Danny Manojlovich (N&D) in 1953. These stores thrived in the 1950s and 1960s and ultimately closed their doors in 1998.

[Plan of Detroit] Fort Lernoult by Major John Jacob Ulrich Rivardi. Date depicted 1796-97; Date of original work March 29, 1799. This version is a 1951 copy.
Why is the writing on the back backwards? This version of the map was one of a wide distribution reproduced on thin paper with a corresponding 20th century street plan printed on the verso for the city of Detroit’s 250th in 1951. When held up to the light you could see the current 1951 street plan behind the 1796-97 plan.

Hand painted china ashtray with a design depicting a sprig of heather. It was made by Morven MacLeod, a well known Scottish ceramics artist, circa 1920, and was owned by George F. Macdonald.

Come join museum staff as we walk around downtown and consider the built heritage of some architectural landmarks. We will discuss the architects behind the design, the type of design, the building’s history, and more recent updates with said building.

The walking tour will take place on September 19, tickets are $10 per person, and the event takes place from 11am to 1pm. Call the museum to book tickets at 519-253-1812. Purchasing a ticket for the walking tour also includes access to the Chimczuk Museum to check out the associated exhibit Buildings That Still Are!
