Three People Arrested Following Stolen Vehicle Investigation....

On the evening of August 5, 2026, members of the Winkler Police Service responded to a report of a theft from Walmart involving a stolen vehicle.

During the investigation, police learned that a second vehicle had also been stolen. With assistance from a witness, officers later located the vehicle travelling in the RM of Stanley.

Members of the Morden Police Service and Altona Police Service assisted with the investigation. One of the suspects was located with the assistance of the Morden Police Service K-9 Unit.

A 48-year-old male, a 33-year-old male and a 28-year-old female were arrested and remain in police custody.

The investigation is continuing, and formal charges have not yet been laid. The individuals are facing a number of charges, which may include:
• Theft under $5,000;
• Possession of property obtained by crime;
• Driving while prohibited;
• Impaired operation of a conveyance;
• Operating a conveyance with a blood-alcohol concentration over 80 mg%;
• Failing to comply with probation orders; and
• Failing to comply with a release order.

Police will release further information as additional details become available.

Almost 100 lifesaving appointments need to be filled next Thursday July 30th at the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church blood drive.

From 2pm to 7pm Canadian Blood Services will be holding a blood donation event and is in serious need of support from the people of Winkler. Blood donations make a lifesaving difference for people in car accidents, cancer patients, and people undergoing surgery.

Our thoughts are with the members of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, the family and friends of the police officer killed in the line of duty, the injured officer, and all those affected by this tragic event.

We also remember the civilian who lost their life and acknowledge the profound impact this incident will have on families, colleagues, first responders, and the broader community.

While many questions remain unanswered at this early stage, we know that lives have been lost, loved ones are grieving, and fellow officers will continue their work in the face of unimaginable loss.

Montreal may seem a world away from Winnipeg, but today its police service and community are close to our hearts and minds.

To our colleagues in Montreal, please know that Winnipeg stands with you. We offer our support, our respect, and our gratitude to all those continuing to serve and protect their community during this extraordinarily difficult time.

By now, most in our community are aware of the Pride event taking place tomorrow in Winkler. There has been support expressed for this event, alongside some negative commentary circulating on social media. As a police service, our responsibility is to ensure the safety of all individuals, regardless of their beliefs, background, or lifestyle. We have been in contact with the event organizers and will be available to help ensure the event proceeds safely and without disruption.

We recognize that some individuals may choose to attend in protest. The right to protest is protected, provided it is carried out peacefully and within the bounds of the law. Any behavior that crosses the line into criminal activity will be addressed appropriately. While people may hold different views on Pride, everyone is still called to treat others with respect and dignity and ultimately to love our neighbors. For me, that means recognizing the worth of every person in our community regardless of their belief.

Under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, all groups have the right to gather and host events free from discrimination. It is not the role of municipal leadership to prevent lawful expression or assembly, and doing so would violate those rights.

Winkler is a strong and caring community, and it is encouraging to see so many people choosing respect even amid potential disagreement. My hope is that tomorrow’s event proceeds safely, respectfully, and peacefully for everyone involved.
