Did you know that exhaust fans cause many home fires?

Exhaust fans are not only located in bathrooms, but you can also find them above the stovetop, laundry rooms, and attic spaces. These fans typically have a small 1 amp pull on the motor. However, when the motor stalls due to the build-up of lint and debris, the current can increase to about 10 amps, resulting in a fire. Over time, these exhaust fans become congested, creating more fuel for a fire.

A few ways to prevent this from happening are to:
⏲️ Install a timer (optimal run time is between 15-20 minutes)
🌬️ Maintain regular cleaning and inspection (every 6 months to one year)
👂🏽 Always keep an ear out for strange noises coming from the fan or the smell of smoke.

This is a surge protector that was in our bedroom and we are lucky because things have have been a lot worse I am so glad that we have OmniShield be as soon as it started it went off and I was able to get it out of the house before it got worse our other smoke alarm that came with the house never went off. So I’m just going to tell everyone that they need to go right now or as soon as the get home and check all smoke alarms in the house and look into getting OmniShield because that safed our lives and our house this morning and check all surge protectors you have in your house -Brittany Socks

Friday around 9:30 AM my phone delivers a text message from the Omnishield fire alarm system in our home and office on the farm. I do love technology when things like this happen. I jumped onto the camera in the basement of our house which was where the alarm came from and could see smoke and what appeared to be fire just off camera. I called son Pete who rushed over and discovered a small fire in the basement which he quickly put out.

Fortunately it was in the middle of the floor away from everything else, so the damage was minimal. He got fans and blew the smoke out and cleaned up things for us while we're away. The source was an oscillating 24" fan which for some reason caught fire. It just moved air to keep the basement dry. That picture is what was left of the fan when the flames were put out. It basically melted down to the base. There is tile damage but overall God blessed us from something that could have been a lot worse.
