Makoon Transition Inc.

Makoon Transition Inc. Makoon Transition Inc. was developed to create safe spaces for families and children who are transitioning out of the Child and Family Services system.

We believe that all parents and families deserve the one-on-one attention and resources they need to keep their kids at home, while living in safe and supported community housing. Manitoba has some of the highest numbers of children in care in the country, with nearly 90% of those kids being Indigenous, many of whom have parents who were themselves in care. works with and supports both parents, wh

ere possible, which NO other program in Winnipeg currently does. Through an intensive, holistic, team-based approach, families who are referred to Makoon Transition Inc.’s supported living program are encouraged to learn and practice healthy parenting skills, so that the cycle of child removal is broken. Our experienced case managers and workers are there to provide 24-hour support, encouragement, respect, and understanding for families, as they work to transform their lives. At Makoon Transition Inc., our goal is to have children return to their family permanently, as they continue their healing journey together, freeing themselves from future CFS involvement. We look forward to being part of your journey.

WHAT A NIGHT!

Yesterday’s Pembina Trails School Division Pow Wow at Fort Richmond Collegiate was something really special, and we're so glad Makoon was part of it.

A huge thank you to whole Pembina Trails team for putting this together, and to the Winnipeg Foundation for helping make it happen. Thank you to all the dancers, the drummers, vendors, and everyone who showed up and made it such a memorable evening.

It was a beautiful reminder of what it looks like when a community comes together to celebrate, heal, and reconnect. ❤️

STAY COOL, STAY SAFE DURING THE HEAT!

Environment Canada has put out a Yellow Heat Warning for the city. We're looking at 34°C today, and it's staying hot well into next week.

Here are a few reminders to beat the heat:
• Drink water before you even feel thirsty
• Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day
• If you're heading outside, throw on a hat and wear something light and loose
• Check on your neighbours, elders, or anyone living alone who might struggle in this kind of heat

Need water? The City of Winnipeg has FREE hydration stations set up across the city:
📍 469 Selkirk Ave. (The Bell Tower)
📍 Southwest corner of Stella Avenue at Main Street (near Mount Carmel Clinic)
📍 Northeast corner of Princess Street at Henry Avenue (near Siloam Mission)
📍 Southeast corner of Roslyn Road at Osborne Street
📍 369 Furby St. (near Agape Table)
📍 Southeast corner of Maryland Street at Ellice Avenue (near Spence Neighbourhood Association)
📍 180 Henry Ave. (near Amoowigamig public washroom & The Salvation Army Centre of Hope)
📍 406 Edmonton St. (Central Park near Knox United Church)
📍 185 Young St. (Broadway Neighbourhood Centre)

🕐 Manitoba wants to hear from YOU!

The provincial government is asking Manitobans to weigh in on something that affects all of us – should we stop changing our clocks twice a year?

You can vote for:
⏰ Year-round Daylight Time (longer evening sunlight)
🌅 Year-round Standard Time (earlier sunrises)
🔄 Keep things the way they are

Go have your say at engagemb.ca/time-change and pass it along to your friends and family, the more voices, the better! 🙌

Moose Hide Campaign Day - May 14, 2026

Today, we recognize Moose Hide Campaign Day, a time to stand together in ending violence against women, children, and all those along the gender continuum.

This Indigenous-led movement is grounded in respect, accountability, and the responsibility to protect one another. The moose hide pin is worn as a symbol of that commitment, a reminder to speak out and choose a path free from violence.

Today is an opportunity to reflect, learn, and take a step toward creating safer, more respectful communities.
