A good night’s sleep can be hard to come by in a busy hospital unit, but for patients in St. Boniface Hospital’s Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU), small changes are helping make rest a little easier. 💙

The ACCU has introduced a new pilot project that provides its patients with earplugs and eye masks to help create a quieter, darker environment for rest. Staff are also finding new ways to reduce nighttime interruptions and make sleep a more effective part of the healing process.

Early feedback from patients is encouraging, with self-reported sleep scores showing improvement since the project began.

Before a nurse cares for their first ICU patient, they need a place to learn, practice, and build confidence.

At St. Boniface Hospital’s Critical Care Simulation Lab, nurses can now train with updated equipment and high-fidelity simulation technology that brings realistic critical care scenarios to life.

Thanks to the generosity of the Jim Orzechowski Memorial Endowment Fund and the Demion Orzechowski Endowment Fund, the renovated space is helping nurses strengthen their clinical skills before they step into the ICU. 🩺

Today, we honour the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities who continue to carry their impacts.🧡

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the ongoing work of reconciliation and our shared responsibilities as Treaty people. As part of this reflection, we acknowledge the lands and territories where we live and work:

St. Boniface Hospital Foundation is located on Treaty 1 Territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Inninewak, Anishininewak, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
We acknowledge that our water is sourced from Treaty 3 Territory, including Shoal Lake 40 First Nation.

We respect the treaties made on these territories and acknowledge not only the harms and injustices of the past, but also the ongoing harms of colonial systems that continue to affect Indigenous Peoples and communities today.

Recognizing that we are all Treaty people, we share responsibilities under Treaty and dedicate our efforts toward a more loving and compassionate world, as we move forward together in the spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.

If you’ve driven past St. Boniface Hospital recently, you’ve probably noticed something new!

Standing more than 60 feet tall, a stunning new mural by artist Emmanuel Jarus is bringing colour and history to the front of the Hospital.

The mural is one of Manitoba’s largest art installations and the first large-scale mural in St. Boniface. It pays tribute to the Grey Nuns, who arrived here by canoe more than 150 years ago, and draws inspiration from the land and history of St. Boniface Hospital.

You helped bring this incredible project to life alongside St. Boniface Hospital and the Higher Learning Foundation. With your generous support, this new piece of art and history is now part of Taché Avenue for the community to enjoy.

At 50, Vindra Jain never expected to have a heart attack.

A teacher and poet, Vindra was at work when she suddenly felt nauseated, hot, and unwell. She was rushed to St. Boniface Hospital, where she learned she had experienced a spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD), a type of heart attack that primarily affects women.

Today, Vindra is sharing her story to help other women recognize the signs, understand SCAD, and know they’re not alone. Stories like Vindra’s show why your support for women’s heart care and research is so important.
