August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day. This marks the 25th year this day is recognized globally to remember those we have lost and recommit to bringing upon changes to drug policy while building community awareness.

Join us and many other community partners today:

🚶 Walk With Us
Monday, August 31st, meet at 333 Maryland St. at 10:30 AM, on the move by 11:00 AM.
Guided by N'Dinawemak's Community Care Team, we will smudge and stroll through the streets of West Broadway, moving toward the Legislature building to rally for a memorial in commemoration of International Overdose Awareness Day*.

💜 International Overdose Awareness Day Winnipeg Rally

Monday, August 31st at the Manitoba Legislative Grounds, 12-1 PM.
Listen to local advocates speak to the current weight of the toxic drug crisis and its effects. Bring photos of your lost loved ones to be placed on the legislature steps.
Please be aware that there will be a die-in* demonstration followed by a moment of silence to honor those we have lost. (*A “die-in,” also referred to as a “lie-in,” is a type of protest where participants mimic being deceased.)

Overdoses are preventable, we need to continue and expand investments in harm reduction supplies, safe consumption spaces and naxolone – all tools that keep people who use drugs alive.

Criminalizing drug use hasn’t worked. We need policy and legislation that protect individuals and communities, and ensure basic human rights and needs are met.

Together, we can create a future where fewer lives are lost, where support is within reach for everyone, and where one day this global moment of remembrance is no longer necessary.

Until then, we remember. We act. And we continue – together.
