Mural Monday 🎨✨

This Week’s Feature: “SHEFALI & THE PEACOCK” mural by Kosala Arumugam (Renew Art Project 3/12).

Back in 2022, Mandy van Leeuwan and the West End BIZ led Renew Art Project. This project produced 12 new murals for the West End neigbhourhood. Sponsored by Councilor Cindy Gilroy.

The murals were painted publicly over at the then vacant lot at 943 Portage Avenue. It was then followed by an event after all the artists were done with their artworks.

"Time is running out for the peacock. Bandits have heard about the bird with the colourful feathers. Only Shefali's love can bring him back to the man he once was, but she is indecisive."

Why don't you try our grant and rebates services? 🤔

Farmer’s Son Co. used to operate more like a wholesale. Recently they had renovations.

The store is now bigger. They teared up the wall on their candle lab, now customers can see how the magic happens. Not only that, but they also have more space for shelves to display their artisanal products, chocolates with eye catching wrappers, and all their vintage items from around Canada and abroad. They also added more lights for a livelier store experience.

Our Business Development Grant helped them achieved their vision for the store, right in time for their 10th anniversary this September 24, 2026.

When you visit the store you’ll be welcomed by comforting aroma and a warm smile. 😊

And the more open floor plan creates a feeling of openness, adventure, and discovery.

Are you concerned about your business. safety? 🤔

Abie, owner of skinbyabie , regularly interacts with the BIZ. She acquired two grants from us helping her with renovations and putting up storefront signs. But the help she gets from us runs deeper than grants.

Recently, the tree on the side of her building developed a split on its trunk. Causing it to lean on the roof of the building, this alarmed her of the possible hazards.

Abbie asked us for help. She emailed our office on a Sunday, September 6th, and got response the next day.

Before she could reply, a West End BIZ representative was already outside her door figuring out the situation.

“That’s why I love the West End BIZ. You guys really help the community,” said Abie.

She needed our help for another incident.

Abie leaves a bowl of chocolate for her clients to enjoy, but would give them out to passersby that ask for some. At some point word got around and there were a ton of people asking for some treats. She decided to stop. The following days, she noticed passersby started to kick, knock, and slam her windows. One eve tried to scratch her window with a scissor, she decided to call us.

“I noticed the increase in patrol presence around my area. Not only that, but the patrols would also come and check on up on us regularly since that incident,” said Abie

🎨 A new mural is coming to Sargent Avenue!

Join the West End BIZ and Take Pride Winnipeg on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 1-2 p.m. at Mordens' of Winnipeg, 674 Sargent Ave. for the unveiling of a new Folklorama mural.

Painted by Winnipeg artist Mandy van Leeuwen, this new mural is another colourful addition to the West End’s growing collection of public art.

Mural Monday 🎨✨

This week's feature: "Reinscribing Nous" by Charlie Johnston (C5 Artworks)

Aside from being part of Charlie's Child's Play series of murals, this one is a celebration of Ukrainian culture. Depicted in the mural are kids painting a giant brain in a Pysanky pattern.

Pysanky are traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs decorated with intricate designs. The ritual dated back in the pre-Christian era of Ukraine later evolving into Christian symbols of resurrection and protection.

"'Reinscribing Nous' is a child's prayer for Ukraine. A wish for higher order brain functions to overtake the toxic primordial territorial neurochemical ruts entrenched in the governing people of Russia's urge to overtake and occupy Ukraine at any cost."
