In 1965, the Home Welfare Association made a commitment to deliver nutritious meals to seniors in Winnipeg.

Today Meals on Wheels champions that commitment, delivering hundreds of meals 365 days a year to Winnipeg’s homebound and vulnerable citizens.

The new month (how is it already September?) means School Zones are back in effect.

Remember to slow down. School zone speed limits of 30 km/h return for the school season. They are in effect weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m until the end of June.

As we continue to serve the community, we want to ensure everyone is safe! Be aware out there. 🙂

For many of our clients, a Meals on Wheels volunteer is the only person they will see all day.

While the meal provides the nutrition, the visit provides the wellness check. That quick chat at the door can be the difference between a lonely day and a bright one.

A MOW shift takes about as long as 👇
· A monthly Costco run
· A doomscrolling session (you know you've done it too!)
· Half of a Jets game
· At least one hour LESS than watching The Odyssey
· Less than a one-way drive to the Whiteshell

Volunteering is really that quick. It's an easy and fun way to make a difference in someone else's day and it only takes up a small portion of yours over the lunch hour.

What does volunteering with Meals on Wheels look like in your calendar? Whatever works for you! 💚

Meals are delivered between 10:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. every day, including holidays, and you can choose the days and a pickup location that work best for your schedule.

New volunteer Tineke has added a mid-week HSC delivery to her calendar for August and September. Come fall, she’ll keep volunteering but switch to every two weeks to better fit her busier schedule.

"Whether you can deliver weekly, every other week or a few times a month or even just once a month, Meals on Wheels could use your help," says Tineke B. "Pop a delivery into your calendar, spend your lunch hour giving back and feel great for the rest of the day!"

How many meals do you get per week as a Meals on Wheels client?

It depends! Clients must sign on for at least two meals a week, but many choose to receive more.

We’re here to support you at any level, whether you need daily lunch delivery, supper bags, frozen meals or just a little extra help a few times a week. Once enrolled, meal service can start in just two business days.
