Another Question Period, another deflection from the Minister of Education.

Once again, I stood up in the House to demand answers on completing the Phoenix School expansion-the undisputed #1 capital priority for the St. James-Assiniboia School Division.

Families in our growing community deserve to know when this essential project will finally cross the finish line.
Unfortunately, instead of providing a real answer or even acknowledging Headingley, the Minister chose to deflect.

Our community doesn’t need rehearsed soundbites-we need accountability and action. I will keep pushing until this government actually listens to the needs of students, teachers, and families in the Roblin constituency.

An incredibly special evening and full house at the Jocelyn House Hospice annual Sunday Supper last night at The Gates on Roblin🌾

It was deeply moving to hear of the compassion and care provided to residents in their final days, the stories of laughter down the hallways and the smell of home cooked food bringing comfort and nostalgia.

It was also touching to witness some recognition for one of my former teachers, Mr. Gavin Wood and his late wife Joy.

In honor of Joy, a profound memorial contribution was made to Jocelyn House. Because of their incredible generosity, the hospice has been able to permanently increase its staffed hours of care-ensuring 24/7, specialized support for residents in their final days. “Life is not forever, but love is.” Joy’s legacy lives on beautifully in the exceptional, compassionate care Jocelyn House provides every single day.

Thank you to the entire team at Jocelyn House for a beautiful evening and the exceptional and very important work you do 🤍

Yesterday in Question Period, I asked the government what Manitobans are asking every day:
If they’ve hired so many healthcare workers, why are patients waiting longer than ever to see a doctor in ERs? Why have diagnostic wait times exploded? And why are northern communities like Thompson facing a staggering 73% nursing vacancy rate?

Behind every statistic is a person waiting in pain. A senior stuck on a waitlist. A parent worried sick for their child. A nurse working double shifts because there simply aren’t enough staff to keep the system running safely.

Healthcare workers are burned out. Patients are frustrated. And families deserve more than excuses and headlines.

Manitobans don’t need government talking points and deflection from questions - they need timely care, staffed hospitals, and a healthcare system they can count on.

Today in the Manitoba Legislature, I had the honour of recognizing Valerie Christie - an extraordinary community leader whose compassion has changed lives across Charleswood for decades.

For 17 years, Valerie has helped lead the Westgrove Family Resource Centre into a true safe haven for families and neighbours in need. Alongside dedicated WFRC employees Gerry Verscheure and Kayla Evans, their work has strengthened our community through kindness, dignity, and care.

A recipient of the Governor General’s Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, Valerie’s commitment to serving others continues to inspire everyone around her. From supporting families at the Westdale Community Food Bank to volunteering with Winnipeg Pet Rescue alongside her daughter, Valerie embodies the very best of Charleswood.

Our community is deeply fortunate to have her! ✨💙

The best conversations often happen around a table!

It was wonderful to host participants from the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Manitoba Twinning program today in the Roblin Constituency Office as we talked about leadership, relationships, and the importance of staying connected with our communities.

Thanks to my MLA colleagues from both sides of the aisle for a great couple of days.

Manitoba families are stretched to the limit.

Every conversation I’m having with parents sounds the same: groceries cost more, bills keep rising, and families are being forced to choose what they can go without.

Today, I asked the government a simple question:
Why not let Manitobans keep more of the money they earn?
Raising the Basic Personal Exemption could put thousands of dollars back into the pockets of working families when they need it most.

Parents are exhausted. Families are struggling. Manitobans deserve action, not excuses.

Today in Question Period, I asked about the very high nursing vacancy levels in Thompson, The Pas, Dauphin, and Swan River.

Just this morning, the Manitoba Nurses Union called out the NDP for failing to keep its promises to nurses. Frontline workers are continuing to sound the alarm yet this government continues to deny the reality.

In fact Manitoba instead has a Premier who claims the province has enough nurses.

Today, the Health Minister had another opportunity to acknowledge the crisis and indicate how many nurses they’ve hired into these rural and Northern communities. They chose deflection instead.
