We’re excited to announce a major investment in Manitoba’s research future! 🚀

Research Manitoba is awarding almost $1.2 million through the New Investigator Operating Grant (NIOG) program to empower 15 new researchers as they launch their independent research programs in 2026.

This year’s recipients are tackling big questions in chemistry, global health, water quality, teacher education, deep learning, reconciliation, mental health, and more. By providing up to two years of operating funding, NIOG helps new faculty build their research teams, spark collaborations, and generate the results needed to compete for national grants.

Investing in the next generation of Manitoba researchers! 🔬

Research Manitoba, together with its funding partners, is proud to announce $1.65 million in funding to support 70 studentships and fellowships.

The 2026 awards will support 26 master’s students, 36 PhD students and eight postdoctoral fellows as they advance innovative research in areas ranging from aging, early childhood development and neuroscience to mental health, immunology, reproductive health and environmental science.

These investments are helping develop Manitoba’s next generation of research talent while advancing discoveries that will make a difference in our province and beyond.

We are grateful to our valued funding partners for their continued commitment to Manitoba’s research community - CancerCare Manitoba, Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba, George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation, Health Sciences Centre Foundation and the Manitoba Lung Association.
