Dakotas from Manitoba and Saskatchewan gathered for a powwow exhibition.

Note: Dakota and Lakota (Sioux) breastplates, often referred to as hair pipe breastplates, are traditional pieces of regalia designed to symbolize protection, strength, and cultural identity. While they originated from practical, somewhat defensive gear used by Plains warriors in the 19th century, they evolved into significant symbols of honor, status, and resilience.
Symbol of Status and Wealth: By the late 19th century, during the reservation period, breastplates transitioned from functional armor to emblems of prestige, prosperity, and high rank. The number of "hair pipes" (long, tubular beads) used, and the complexity of the adornments (like beads, shells, or mirrors), often reflected the wearer's wealth and status.

In Nov 2025, Vince Tacan lost the election and filed a court action to invalidate the election of Jennifer Bone as chief and five councillors. Bone received 371 votes to 212 for Tacan.

The court action was adjourned this week after an agreed-upon resolution according to Tacan. (Other plaintiffs included Jon Bell, Anthony Tacan and Carol Johnson).

Sioux Valley says they will be releasing details on the agreement in the near future.

Vince Tacan said the agreement lets the original, controversial election officer, Burke Ratte, count the ballots from the November election and claims the recount may impact the councillor seats (but not the chief position). Tacan originally claimed the election was illegal and wanted a new election so he could have another chance at being the chief but settled for a recount that could possibly change the seats on council.

Tacan believes people's actions against him (his s exual assault victim coming forward) has "finished him politically" though he claims his innocence and states the allegations have not yet gone to court (despite children exist due to the historic s exual assault). The victim came forward months before the election but Tacan describes the allegations he s exually assaulted a 13 year old girl as politically motivated.

During the election controversy, Tacan started a copy of the Sioux Valley website to push his opinions and plans to continue operating it.
