Abundance is all around Colin and the staff at St. Leon Gardens!

The harvest season is still in full swing, and the quality of local veggies is still unbelievable. Here are a few notable things to check out in the next few days at the market:

Local Squash and Fall Decor: The colour orange has totally invaded the market. Pumpkins, mums, straw bales, wheat sheaves, and of course, local squash!

Local Corn: In season, extremely tasty, and wonderfully sweet. Enjoy as many cobs as you possibly can before the season suddenly ends!

Local Melons: The most beautiful late Manitoban fruit! Local Cantaloupes and Watermelons are rolling in! Don't forget the deliciously sweet yellow watermelon, which dazzles in its colour and taste.

A shout out to B’nai Brith Canada which will host its l15th Annual Afternoon with the Goldeyes.
It is a vital community project that supports Winnipeg’s most vulnerable. The afternoon event allows service agencies to bring their clients to enjoy a fun baseball game, accompanied by a delicious lunch and commemorative gifts. It is a heart-warming experience to see so many of Winnipeggers who face barriers to be feted.

‘The Music and The Message’

Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative was founded by a dedicated group of retired broadcasters and people with a passion. A passion for nostalgic music that wasn’t being heard anywhere on the radio dial, and a true dedication to the community in Winnipeg. They wanted to serve a discerning audience, that was being underserved by the rest of radio.

CJNU hit the airwaves December 2nd of 2006, and picked up the baton from such stations as CKVN, CJML and CHNR which, in the years since 1995, had been trying to preserve some of the magic of radio from years gone by. CJNU didn’t just want to spin the tunes, but to also shine a spotlight on the many incredible charitable, not-for-profit, community, arts, and cultural organizations in Winnipeg; to provide a platform to tell the good news stories that otherwise may not be told.

CJNU is the only radio station in the country to move its main studio from one location to another each month. This was initially born of necessity - as there was no permanent home! - but has become one of the most important parts of what the station does: broadcasting to the community, from across the community.

The programming you hear on CJNU is almost entirely produced by volunteers. The station is truly powered by volunteers - with only two paid staff, but over 100 people involved in the yearly operation of the station!
