Greenwich Fire Department

Greenwich Fire Department Dedicated to providing fire/emergency services to Greenwich & the surrounding communities since 1933 Chief Jason Ripley

Chief’s Welcome:

On Behalf of the Officers & Members of the Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department, I would like to welcome you to our page. The Greenwich Fire Department was established in 1933, in a small, single bay station. Over the last 89 years the department has evolved into a larger organization dealing with a wide variety of emergencies with a focus on providing high quality serv

ice to our residents. We operate with 5 pieces of apparatus; 2 Engines, Tanker, Rescue & Utility. We currently have 43 dedicated members who provide services to Greenwich and surrounding communities, as well as providing mutual aid assistance to our neighbouring Departments. Our department responds to approximately 80-100 calls for service a year.

After yesterday's call, crews stuck around the fire hall to complete their weekly truck checks.

While the emergency may be over, the work doesn't stop there. Our members took the time to inspect equipment, check tools, test lights, and make sure everything was ready for the next call.

Truck checks are an important part of what we do. They help ensure our apparatus and equipment are ready to go when our community needs us most.

It's not always the part of firefighting that people see, but it's one of the reasons we're able to respond safely and effectively when the pager goes off.

Last night members of the Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department and Greenwich’s Swift Water Rescue Team trained alongside Valley Search and Rescue during a simulated victim rescue.
The scenario involved rescuing a patient from the water and navigating the steep, rocky terrain, challenging access routes, and technical rope systems required to safely remove a patient from the area.
Training opportunities like this strengthen partnerships between agencies and ensure responders are prepared when emergencies occur.
Thank you to Valley Search and Rescue for their continued collaboration and commitment to emergency preparedness.
Natural water features present significant hazards, including swift-moving water, slippery rocks, steep embankments, and difficult terrain. These conditions can quickly complicate rescue operations and place both the public and responders at risk.

Did you know many fires aren’t caused by people intentionally setting them — but by careless activities?

Something as small as a cigarette butt tossed from a vehicle window can ignite dry grass and brush in seconds, especially during wildfire season. What seems harmless can quickly grow into a dangerous fire that threatens homes, property, and lives.

🚬 One careless flick is all it takes.

Please do your part:
• Never throw cigarette butts out vehicle windows
• Fully extinguish smoking materials
• Use proper ashtrays or containers
• Help keep our roadsides and communities safe
