The Woodstock Police Service has laid charges in connection with several recent incidents:

🔹 Norwich Avenue & Montclair Drive Collision
Police determined that two occupants allegedly switched seats after a collision involving a G1 driver.

A 20-year-old Woodstock male was charged with:

- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Permit Novice Driver to Drive in Contravention of Condition or Restriction

A 24-year-old Woodstock female was charged with:

- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Class G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver

🔹 Driver Flees Attempted Traffic Stop
A driver allegedly fled an attempted traffic stop before police later located and arrested the suspect.

A 31-year-old Etobicoke male was charged with:

- Dangerous Operation
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Operation While Prohibited
- Failure to Comply with Release Order – Two Counts

🔹 Motorcycle Collision – Fairway Road
Police allege the motorcycle driver left the scene on foot following a collision.

A 26-year-old Woodstock male was charged with:

- Fail to Remain
- Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
- Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence
- Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance

🔹 Impaired Driving Investigation
A driver was arrested following a traffic stop and breath testing that resulted in readings nearly three times the legal limit.

A 20-year-old Tillsonburg male was charged with:

- Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus

Yesterday, Woodstock Police Service was proud to host and participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) in support of Special Olympics Ontario.

The Torch Run brings law enforcement, Special Olympics athletes and communities together to promote inclusion, acceptance and opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities, while raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics programs.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Woodstock Police Service joins communities across Canada in honouring Survivors of residential schools and recognizing the lasting impacts on Indigenous families and communities.

Last week, WPS joined community partners for the raising of the Every Child Matters flag — a visible reminder of the importance of remembrance, reflection and reconciliation.

Today, we encourage everyone to take time to listen, learn and reflect on the history and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, and on the role we can all play in moving reconciliation forward.

Today, Woodstock Police Service joined police and peace officers from across Canada in Ottawa for the 49th Annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial.

Each year, we gather to honour and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and to stand alongside their families, friends and colleagues.

Suspicious item at St. Patrick’s School found to pose no threat

Woodstock, ON – On Sept. 24, 2026, shortly after 2:30 p.m., Woodstock Police Service officers responded to St. Patrick’s Catholic Elementary School on Parkinson Road after the school reported a suspicious homemade device on the property.

As a precaution, multiple police units responded and the school was fully evacuated. Nearby Southside Public School sheltered in place, and residents of nearby homes were asked to either shelter in place or leave the area. Several roads around the school were temporarily closed.

Officers searched the school and seized the device, which was confirmed not to be an explosive. Nothing else of concern was found.

The investigation is ongoing. Road closures have been lifted, and the shelter-in-place at Southside Public School has ended. There is no ongoing risk to the public.

Police thank students, staff, parents and neighbours for their patience and cooperation. Police also thank partner first responder agencies, Woodstock Transit, the London District Catholic School Board and the Thames Valley District School Board for their assistance.

The Woodstock Police Service is aware of public discussion regarding the charges laid in connection with the September 16, 2026 investigation, including comments suggesting that police are discouraging bystanders from intervening to help others. We want to address this directly.

We want to be clear: we are not discouraging anyone from intervening to protect another person from harm. Bystanders who take reasonable action to help someone in danger play an important role in community safety, and the Woodstock Police Service supports that.

The Criminal Code recognizes the right of any person to use force to defend themselves or another person and permits reasonable force in doing so. Whether force used is reasonable depends on the specific circumstances of each case, including factors such as the nature of the threat and the nature of the force used in response.

In this case, our investigation determined that a prohibited weapon was used during the intervention. The use of a prohibited weapon is a significant factor in any legal assessment of whether the force applied was reasonable, which is why charges resulted in this specific instance.

It's also important to understand that being accused of a crime does not remove a person's protection under the law. If an assault occurs against anyone, including a person who is themselves facing charges, police have a duty to investigate and apply the law accordingly. The justice system does not permit selective enforcement based on who the victim is alleged to be.

We recognize the public's interest in this case, but we are limited in the further detail we can release. Providing additional specifics at this stage carries a real risk of affecting the ongoing judicial process for the victim and all individuals charged. We take that responsibility seriously, and it is why our public statements will remain measured while these matters are before the court. We ask the public to allow the judicial process to run its course before drawing conclusions.

After 18 years of dedicated service with the Woodstock Police Service Emergency Response Unit (ERU), Sergeant Wright is stepping down from the team.

Throughout nearly two decades with the ERU, Sgt. Wright has contributed countless hours to specialized training, operational deployments, and the development of fellow team members.

His experience, leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact on the ERU and the members who have served alongside him.

While his time with the ERU comes to a close, Sgt. Wright will continue serving the Woodstock Police Service as a Detective Sergeant with the Criminal Investigations Branch.

Thank you, Sgt. Wright, for 18 years of dedication and service to the ERU, and for your continued commitment to our community.
