It’s been a great summer and we are sad to see it end. Camp was so much fun! We were so glad to welcome back all of our campers and excited to get to know everyone joining us for the first time. Between cracking clues in a homemade spy mission to exploring the ecosystem in the depths of the creek, there was never a dull moment. We may have had our ups and down, but the joy, friendships, and curiosity that took root will always be worth a little spilled paint and stormy days.

The Beachville District Museum strives to create a fun and engaging environment of curiosity, exploration, and learning. We couldn’t have done it without the dedication of our camp counselors, who put in the work to make this summer the best it could be, the support of our museum staff, who were always ready to jump in and help when needed, and our volunteers, who were here to lend a hand.

We hope that all of our campers return to school with fond memories of their time here and return to us next year ready to make more.

Thank you to all who joined and supported the Beachville District Historical Society’s Annual Summer Beef BBQ Fundraiser on Friday evening! We welcomed 200 guests to the museum grounds to enjoy a delicious, locally sourced meal, live music, lawn games, and a fantastic evening of community.

We are grateful to The Butcher Barn for the roast beef, Streef Produce Ltd. for the baked potatoes, Windy Willow Garden for the corn on the cob, Mt. Elgin United Church for the coleslaw, and our volunteers for preparing the baked beans and delicious salads. Miss Ingersoll Family Restaurant and our volunteers also provided a wonderful assortment of homemade pies. We also extend our thanks to All Celebrations for supplying the dinnerware, which helps us to reduce waste and keep the event sustainable, and to Ron Yuzark for joining us and photographing the event.

Live music for the evening was generously provided by the talented Jack London, Paul Vansaten, Eric Shain, Steve Szmeretzky, and Ray Thornton.🎶

Lastly, we owe sincere thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers, whose hard work and ongoing support ensured that the event ran smoothly from start to finish.

Proceeds from the evening will be directed to updating the museum's community road sign. Thank you for sharing a meal with us, and we look forward to welcoming you back next year! 🌽🥗🍰

As we gear up to join Baseball Canada at the 13U National Championships this weekend, we're looking back on baseball's long history in South-West Oxford ⚾

This patch and jacket from our collection were earned by Ed Wiseman during his time playing ball for the Foldens Bantam 'C' team in 1966-67.

From the early 1900s onward, the community of Foldens Corners always had a team in the South Oxford League, winning the Championship and Silver Cup on several occasions. Some other softball accolades include the 1966 and 1967 Bantam Boys Softball Team's championship wins from the Ontario Rural Softball Association (ORSA).

From 1926-1970, the Foldens community rallied around the ball fields. In 1926, a petition was signed and presented to the West Oxford Township Council requesting to build a community park at Foldens Corners. As a result of the petition, Council signed and passed bylaw No. 695 which gave a loan of $1000 to purchase land for a community park. The lot chosen for the new playing field was purchased from Franklin Folden Jr. and by 1970, a 71ft strip of land was added to the south side of the park which helped prevent balls from landing “out of bounds” too often.

In 1969, a movement was organized to illuminate the ball diamond for nightly games. To raise funds for the project, a 20-mile walk-a-thon was organized and 75 residents of Foldens participated, raising over $2500 that allowed them to start the project. The final product was completed by late summer of 1970 and a grand opening was held in August of that year.

These artifacts, and many more, will be displayed on Friday, August 21 at the 13U National Championships at Woodstock's Southside Park—be sure to stop by our booth to take a look!

The Beachville District Historical Society Annual Summer BBQ Fundraiser is Tomorrow. Join us from 5pm to 7pm, for good food, good company, and a good time.

Enjoy a meal of locally sourced roast beef, baked potatoes, field-fresh corn and more. Lets not forget fun lawn games and live entertainment. All proceeds will be directed towards updating the museum community road sign.

In honour of , we're highlighting volunteer contributions each month for the rest of the year 👏

Susan has tirelessly championed the museum and historical society for a number of years now and has demonstrated tremendous care for everyone she meets along the way. During her recent term as Chair of the Board, that care was more evident than ever as she supported museum improvements in physical accessibility, facade restoration, and community connection efforts. She is a warm and inviting person whose many strengths include fundraising, project coordination, and cheering others on in their pursuits. She can often be found selling 50/50 tickets at our car shows, preparing delicious baked beans for our annual BBQ, and securing community sponsorships to grow our holiday light displays each season. Thank you, Susan, for your kindness, leadership, and ardent support of the museum and our communities!
