Today, June 8th is World Oceans Day 🌎

Did you know that we generate approximately 300 million tonnes of plastic waste per year?! 8 million makes it way into our oceans 🥲

The Divert NS Ocean Action Zone at the Discovery Centre aims to inspire individuals to take action to reduce waste that could end up in the Ocean.

👉This great exhibit raises awareness about plastic waste and the impact it has on our ocean and marine life.

Make sure you check it out the next time you are in Halifax. It's a fun interactive experience that's great for the entire family.

That's a lot of tires!! Most tire retailers accept them back at no cost (rims removed).

In 2021, Divert NS marked a major milestone in tire recycling, celebrating the recycling of its 25 millionth tire since the program began in 1996.

This achievement reflects decades of progress in keeping scrap tires out of Nova Scotia’s landfills and putting them to better use. In total, the program has diverted more than 190,000 cubic metres of material from disposal and prevented over 55,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. The milestone highlights the long-term environmental and climate benefits of tire recycling, and the collective impact of Nova Scotians choosing to recycle.

Happy Environment Week! 🌎

Did you know that this week is Environment Week? Environment Week is May 31 to June 6 and always falls on the first week of June.

What will you do to help the Environment? Why not make a small change to reduce waste?

skip the straw, buying bulk, reducing single use items or using reusable containers when taking a lunch.
