Two Ontario men have been charged after a routine traffic stop evolved into a drug investigation in Yellowknife.
On June 6 while conducting a routine traffic stop on a vehicle in the city, officers formed grounds to arrest an individual after he provided false information about his identity to police. The man was taken into custody and a search of his person turned up a quantity of crack-cocaine consistent with trafficking.
Further investigation was conducted, leading officers to form the grounds to believe this suspect was also trafficking drugs from his rented accommodations.
A search warrant was obtained for a residence on McMahon Court and executed. During the search, officers arrested another Ontario man and seized loaded pistol, over $22,000 in cash and approximately 170 grams of suspected crack-cocaine. The pistol’s origins were traced and it was determined to have been stolen in the United States.
