REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN for our 10th Annual I Will Run for Them 5K. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 4 out of 5 Native women will experience violence in their lifetime. This is not just a statistic—it’s our mothers, sisters, daughters, and grandmothers. Our LGBTQ2S+ relatives are also impacted at alarming rates.

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, join us at Isleta Lakes & RV Park for a day of movement, remembrance, and healing.

Whether you run, walk, or jog, dedicate your miles to a loved one. Together, we honor survivors, cycle-breakers, and those we’ve lost. Violence is not our tradition.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with support, volunteering, and shared personal stories. We have one story that will be coming to you live on very soon highlighting many issues within the social services and foster care system including supplying illicit drugs to a minor, abuse by a nonprofit, and a coverup by social services. Stay tuned!

Thank you to everyone who reached out about the protest yesterday. Unfortunately, it has been postponed until a later date and when the timing is right. Those in leadership positions at social services, HomeBase or Foster Family Coalition won't deter us from speaking out. The more they intimidate, the harder we will push.
Thank you to those who offered words of support or volunteered with research!!

🗓 Mark you Calendars! Join our youth and young adults as they march in protest against a broken system that has failed them. Meet at Foster Family Coalition of the NWT where we will march to the Jan Stirling Building and then to the Legislature. Those leaders in nonprofit organizations, child & family services, and politicians will HEAR US OUT! We won't be intimidated. A press release will be supplied to the media prior.

The support and spirit of community in this town are what make it special. We have received an overwhelming amount of support for our youth protest and they feel it. Thank you for stepping up once again and raising the banner of those who can't raise it on their own. We will march for change. We won't stop until we get it. We will hold those in power accountable. And we will make them hear our voices.
Let's see how many politicians come out to hear their voices!

📣 YOUTH MARCH FOR CHANGE 📣
Monday, July 21 at 12:00 PM

City of Yellowknife Our youth are rising and they’re demanding to be heard. Join us for a peaceful march and protest calling for accountability, action, and meaningful change in a system that continues to fail vulnerable young people.

📍 March Stops:

Foster Family Coalition of NWT – 5120 50 Street

Joe Tobie Building – 5020 48 Street

NWT Legislature – 4570 48 Street

This is about truth, justice, and a future where every young person is seen, supported, and safe. All are welcome. Stand with our youth and help them raise their voices. They are not just file #'s. They have names. They have lives. They have voices.

Their voices MUST be heard:

1. New leadership in nonprofit organizations that have failed them

2. Accountability and change at Child & Family Services

3. Funding for supports in mental health, addictions recovery, education, and housing

4. Change to a system that 'ages them out' at 19 and exposing them to homelessness and further addiction, abuse and neglect.

Notice of Protest! Yellowknife youth and young adults will be holding a public protest in Yellowknife at noon on Monday, July 21. We demand to have our voices heard.
We demand accountability.
We demand change.

Recently, a youth was critically injured and remains in life threatening condition in an ICU down south due to injuries he sustained from an explosion while huffing propane. The system has failed him and countless others who have 'aged out' of the system.
The system is broken
We are not just file numbers.
We are humans.
We have names.
We have families.
And we WILL have a future!

We demand immediate change of leadership in nonprofits who have failed us. Home Base YK Foster Family Coalition of the NWT

We demand immediate change of program services by social services.

We demand increased funding for mental health, addictions, housing, and education needs for youth and young adults.

Contact Arianna Bowmaster for info on how to get involved.
