Update: May 31, 2026

The fire ban for the City of Yorkton has been lifted.

🔥 Open Air Fire Safety Reminder 🔥

Enjoy your backyard fire pit safely this season by following a few simple precautions:

✅ Only burn clean, dry wood.
✅ Keep a water source, hose, or fire extinguisher nearby.
✅ Never leave a fire unattended.
✅ Keep children and pets a safe distance from the fire.
✅ Avoid having a fire during windy conditions, as sparks can travel and start unwanted fires.
✅ Ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area or going indoors. Stir the ashes, add water, and check for any remaining heat.

Remember, even a small fire can spread quickly if not properly monitored.

Let's work together to keep our community safe and prevent unnecessary fires this summer.

🚒 If a fire gets out of control, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Special Weather Statement

A late season winter storm is poised to impact southern Saskatchewan beginning overnight through Thursday.

Although Wednesday during the day will see many locations through southern Saskatchewan experiencing pleasant spring weather with highs in the low to mid teens, beginning overnight, the weather will see a stark shift with a wintery mix impulse passing through. Generally, when the precipitation begins overnight, it will be snow for most portions of southern Saskatchewan, however in some places, it may fall as rain before transitioning to snow. The snowfall amounts may vary considerably and there is a high amount of uncertainty as to where the heaviest bands of snowfall will occur. Amounts in the forecast may increase as this system develops.

INSTRUCTIONS
Avoid unnecessary travel. Winds and blowing snow could dramatically reduce visibility in the city and on highways.

🚨 Spring Ice Safety Reminder 🚨

As temperatures rise, ice on ponds, creeks and sloughs located in and around the city become unpredictable and unsafe. What may look like solid ice, can quickly give way without warning.

❄️ Stay safe this spring:

▪️Avoid walking, skating, or driving on ice.
▪️Keep pets off of icy surfaces.
▪️Keep a watch on children, and make sure they know the danger.
▪️Stay off moving water areas, as ice there is especially weak.

❄️ If someone falls through the ice:

▪️Call 911 immediately.
▪️Do NOT enter the ice surface.

No ice is safe during spring thaw. Please stay back and stay safe!
