While many are enjoying a well-deserved day off, we're especially grateful to our team members who are working today. In a profession that operates every day of the year, we're so thankful for all that you do.

The start of a new school year is here, and students across our community are heading back to the classroom, reconnecting with friends, and meeting their teachers.

The return to school means busier roads, school zones, and crosswalks throughout our neighbourhoods.

With that in mind, we want to remind everyone to obey reduced speed limits in school zones, watch for students crossing unexpectedly, and use extra caution around school buses. Parents can help by reminding children to stay back from the curb until the bus has come to a complete stop and to always be aware of their surroundings.

By slowing down and taking a little extra care, we can all help students get to and from school safely.

All of us here at Medavie Health Services West - Crestvue are wishing students, teachers, school staff, and families a safe, successful, and rewarding school year ahead!

Ever wonder why an ambulance sometimes has its lights and sirens on, when other times it doesn’t?

Not every ambulance call is the same. Our team assess each situation individually and decide on the safest and most appropriate way to respond. In some cases, lights and sirens may be necessary, when other times, they may not be.

There are many reasons an ambulance might be traveling without lights or sirens, including:

Non-urgent responses: When we’re traveling for non-urgent purposes, such as routine patient transfers or even vehicle maintenance, our ambulances may be operated in the same way as any other vehicle on the road.

Traffic conditions: Depending on traffic, road conditions, and the nature of the call, crews can make the informed choice to travel with the normal flow of traffic.

Every situation is guided by our paramedics training and experience, helping them to choose the safest approach for both patients and others on the road. If you see an emergency vehicle with flashing lights approaching, remember to slow down, move over carefully, and remain stopped until the emergency vehicle(s) has passed.

It's no secret that we are busy, but that just means that we have to take advantage of our down time and have some fun. Two of our crews successfully completed our Scavenger Hunt that was offered this summer, and we wanted to share a few of the photos with you!
NOTE: These tasks were completed on their time off, or between calls (no calls were delayed for this event). Lots of laughs were had and the smiles say it all!

Thanks to the public for the additional laughs as you interacted with our staff and to all of our community partners for allowing our staff onto your property and into your locations so that they could check off a few scavenger hunt boxes! Your taking time out of your day to help them have some fun is so appreciated.

Saturday was HOT.
Like, our paramedics needed lemonade HOT.

A job well done to all of these entrepreneurs who were out battling the heat to keep our paramedics hydrated and ready to serve the community! Thank you for doing this kind service so that we could do ours at our best!

On this International Paramedics Day, we are reminded of the bond that connects paramedics across communities, provinces, and our country.

Yesterday, when a tragedy struck our colleagues in Prince Edward Island, the entire paramedicine community came together in an outpour of compassion, strength, and empathy. The same compassion, strength, and empathy that paramedics bring to everything they do.

Emergencies don’t take a day off, and through extraordinary challenges, paramedics to serve their communities with professionalism, care, and an unwavering commitment.

To every paramedic in Prince Edward Island, in our communities, and across Canada, thank you. The strength you provide during such difficult moments reflect the very best of the paramedic profession.

Today, we are thinking of the patient, the two Island EMS paramedics, their families, friends, colleagues, and all those impacted.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic motor vehicle collision involving two of our paramedics and the patient in their care.

At this time, the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Out of respect for those involved and their loved ones, we ask that our community honour those affected without speculation, but instead with compassion and patience as they navigate the difficult days ahead.

We appreciate all of the outreach from the community. Our focus is on the families, friends, and colleagues of those who have been impacted by this tragedy. Our thoughts are also with the driver involved in the collision and their family during this difficult time.

Thank you for highlighting some of the wonderful professionals that work within our organization. Kiarra and Tessa are two of the best and we are proud to have them as a part of the MHSW Crestvue family.

Today I had the chance to meet some Yorkton paramedics, and I walked away feeling something we don’t talk about enough... hope.

These two young ladies reminded me that the future of paramedicine is bright. Smart. Compassionate. Professional. Exactly the kind of people you want showing up when your worst day becomes reality.

The problem isn’t finding good people. The problem is keeping them.

Now is the time for government leaders to step up. Better working conditions. Better pay. More respect for the profession. If we get this right, we might actually keep some of these incredible young people serving the communities they care so much about.

The future is standing in front of us. Let’s not push it away.
