Local Awareness Program on Micro Energy Credits Integrated e-Cooking and Space Heating Carbon Mitigation Program

Jurmey Gewog Administration successfully facilitated a local awareness program on the "Micro Energy Credits Integrated e-Cooking and Space Heating Carbon Mitigation Program for Piloting in Bhutan," conducted by the Bhutan Ecological Society.

The project aims to promote the transition to clean electric cooking and space heating technologies as a sustainable alternative to conventional biomass-based energy use. The program seeks to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improve indoor air quality, and enhance the health and well-being of rural and high-altitude communities while supporting Bhutan's commitment to environmental conservation and climate change mitigation.

The awareness session targeted rural households, institutions, and small businesses, with a focus on encouraging the adoption of clean energy technologies through the Micro Energy Credits initiative.

A total of 30 participants, comprising 17 male and 13 female progressive farmers and Gewog officials, attended the program. The session provided valuable insights into the environmental, health, and socio-economic benefits of clean electric cooking and heating solutions and encouraged participants to become advocates for sustainable energy practices within their communities.

Jurmey Gewog Administration extends its sincere appreciation to the Bhutan Ecological Society for conducting this informative awareness program and remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and improved livelihoods for our communities.

A citrus fruit fly management training was successfully conducted for 30 participants from Tsellam Chiwog, comprising 18 female and 12 male participants. The session was facilitated by the Plant Protection Focal Person from ARDC–Wengkhar under the Horticulture Sector.
During the training, participants were briefed on the life cycle and management practices of citrus fruit fly, with emphasis on understanding pest behaviour and reducing infestation in citrus orchards. Practical demonstrations were also carried out on the preparation and application of protein hydrolysate as a non-chemical control measure to attract and manage fruit flies.

In addition, participants received hands-on training on pit digging and proper disposal of dropped and infested fruits to interrupt the pest life cycle and minimise the pest population. The training enhanced participants’ knowledge and practical skills in adopting environmentally friendly and sustainable citrus pest management practices.
The training was implemented with the support of the RNR-Job project, funded by the World Bank.
