Happy Pride!

Today, the network joined thousands of people at Zurich Pride, which had as its motto an important call to action: ‘Protect q***r youth – Zugang Schafft Zukunft’.

Colleagues from the Delegation of the European Union in Switzerland and Liechtenstein 🇪🇺, the Embassy of Sweden in Bern 🇸🇪, The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Switzerland, the Embassy of Belgium in Bern 🇧🇪, the Embassy of Canada in Bern, British Embassy Berne 🇬🇧, the Austrian Embassy Bern 🇦🇹 and the Embassy of Ireland 🇮🇪 were proud to march with the community, committing to shared values and advocating for equality, dignity, and inclusion.

On Tuesday, the Embassy celebrated 'Bloomsday & Beyond' by participating in the 2026 Global Book Giveaway - a celebration of Irish storytelling.

Collaborating with Stadtbibliothek Luzern and Bibliothèque de la Ville de La Chaux-de-Fonds, copies of Ulysses and works by contemporary Irish authors Claire Keegan, Paul Murray, Anne Enright, Colum McCann, Caoilinn Hughes and Kevin Barry were available for the public to discover, and to add to their own personal libraries for free.

Many thanks to the two public libraries and for all the lovely chats at our book tables.

To celebrate , the Embassy was pleased to work with the Zurich James Joyce Foundation to programme a fantastic performance of Dublin Theatre Productions’ play ‘Nora & Jim’ on Friday evening, with Ambassador Aoife McGarry providing opening remarks.

Yesterday, Deputy Head of Mission David McDonnell was delighted to join the Foundation’s annual Bloomsday Buffet, where the vibrant Joycean community enjoyed fantastic music and readings.

Today, on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, we mark the progress made on the rights of LGBTIQ+ people.

It is unacceptable that LGBTIQ+ people continue to face discrimination, harassment, and violence for being who they are.

Ireland will continue to call for further steps to realise the full equality of LGBTIQ+ persons at home and globally.

Ambassador McGarry was delighted to join President of the Swiss Confederation Guy Parmelin and fellow Ambassadors in 🇨🇭for an excursion to the President’s home canton of Vaud today. It was fascinating to visit the underground pumped-storage hydropower plant of Veytaux and later the Genolier Innovation Hub.

A wonderful opportunity to also discuss with President Parmelin the very strong 🇨🇭- 🇮🇪 relationship, which we will further build upon with high-level exchanges during Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
