𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘: Kalayaan 2026: PH Embassy Celebrates 128 Years of Philippine Independence
The Philippine Embassy in Bern joined Filipinos around the world in commemorating the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a Flag Raising Ceremony and Diplomatic Reception on 12 June 2026.
Held at Bellevue Palace Bern, the diplomatic reception hosted by Philippine Ambassador to Switzerland Bernard Faustino M. Dy gathered more than 100 guests from the Swiss government, diplomatic corps, and business community. Ambassador Markus Leitner, Assistant State Secretary for Asia and the Pacific of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, attended as Guest of Honor.
In his remarks, Ambassador Dy emphasized that independence carries an ongoing responsibility to build a resilient future for Filipinos and to contribute positively to the international community. He also highlighted the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship priorities of Peace and Security Anchors, Prosperity Corridors, and People Empowerment.
Ambassador Leitner underscored the strong and growing partnership between the Philippines and Switzerland, highlighting the role of both countries’ communities abroad in fostering deeper people-to-people ties. He also noted the shared commitment of the Philippines and Switzerland, as ASEAN and OSCE Chairs respectively, to promoting dialogue, cooperation, and regional stability amid global challenges.
The program featured performances by Switzerland-based Filipino artists, namely soprano Eunice Meiller and pianist Charisse Dumlao, who showcased Philippine music through works by Rodolfo Cornejo, Ryan Cayabyab, and the beloved classic “Ang Maya.”
Guests were treated to a selection of Philippine cuisine, including lechon, kinilaw, chicken adobo, pancit, and leche flan. Philippine food products supplied by the Provincial Government of Isabela were also showcased.
The Department of Tourism-Frankfurt supported the event by providing “Love the Philippines” roll-up banners, information cards, and tote bags, which were distributed to guests together with the Embassy’s souvenir gift from Filipino homeware brand Casa Juan.
