The future of trade pulses not through ports, but through protocols. The Digital Trade & Technology Firechat at Davos was a masterclass in this shift, a powerful reminder that our economic arteries are being rewired in real time.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala framed digital trade not as a niche, but as the new circulatory system of the global economy. This means trade is no longer only about shipping containers, it’s about data flows, e-commerce platforms, cloud infrastructure, and interoperable digital standards. It moves at the speed of light, reaches the most remote communities, and demands a new kind of governance, one built on inclusion as architecture and access as infrastructure.

Technology is the bridge not the border. From blockchain enabling transparent supply chains to AI streamlining customs and digital payments empowering SMEs, technology dissolves traditional barriers. But this bridge must be built for everyone. As Dr. Okonjo-Iweala powerfully noted, we must ensure that the Global South is not left on the digital shoreline, but is actively designing and crossing this bridge.

This is the fulfillment that comes not from having all the answers, but from asking the right questions together. The future of trade is being coded now. The question is: who is writing the algorithm?
