The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations and Other International Organizations was established in 1985 and is one of the eight resident embassies/missions that the Royal Government of Bhutan maintains abroad. Kutshab Tshering Lhadn presented her credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Mr. Khaled El-Enany on 16 July 2026.

Kutshab conveyed the warm greetings of His Majesty The King and the Royal Government of Bhutan. Kutshab congratulated the Director-General on his election in November 2025.

DG welcomed Kutshab, recalling Bhutan’s membership in UNESCO since 1982 and highlighting partnership in greening education, higher education, support for Bhutan’s first World Heritage nomination, climate action and media development.

Bhutan und Österreich verbindet eine besondere Erfolgsgeschichte 🇧🇹🤝🇦🇹

ADA-Geschäftsführer Bernd Brünner traf gestern die neue Botschafterin des Königreichs Bhutan, I.E. Tshering Lhadn. Einen Tag zuvor hatte sie Bundespräsident Alexander Alexander Van der Bellen ihr Beglaubigungsschreiben überreicht und damit offiziell ihr Amt aufgenommen.

Über 30 Jahre lang war Bhutan Schwerpunktland der österreichischen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Gemeinsam wurden wichtige Fortschritte erzielt – von der Wasserkraft über nachhaltigen Tourismus bis hin zur Stärkung eines fairen, unabhängigen und effizienten Rechtssystems.

Ein besonderer Meilenstein: Bhutan stieg Ende 2023 zu einem Land mittleren Einkommens auf.

Wir freuen uns auf den weiteren Austausch und die Fortsetzung der freundschaftlichen Beziehungen zwischen Bhutan und Österreich.

Kutshab Tshering Lhadn called on Ambassador Nikolaus Marschik, Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs while in Vienna. During the meeting both sides acknowledged the excellent cooperation between Austria and Bhutan spanning over three decades and agreed to explore new avenues for enhancing partnership.

Kutshab Tshering Lhadn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary the Kingdom of Bhutan to Austria, presented her Letter of Credence to His Excellency Dr.Alexander Van der Bellen, the Federal President of the Republic Austria at a ceremony held at the Hofburg Palace on 1 July 2026.

On the occasion, the Ambassador Lhadn conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Majesty The King to the President, Government and people of Austria. She reaffirmed Bhutan’s commitment to further strengthen the traditional close and friendly relations with Austria.

Rome, 23 June 2026 - Kutshab Tshering Lhadn presented her credentials as the Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the World Food Programme to Mr. Carl Skau, Acting Executive Director of WFP, on 23 June 2026.

On the occasion, Kutshab conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Majesty The King and the Royal Government of Bhutan. She expressed appreciation for WFP’s longstanding partnership with Bhutan and underscored the importance of WFP`s continued engagements in supporting Bhutan`s development priorities.

Mr. Skau welcomed Kutshab and shared that WFP would explore alternative modalities of support to build upon the strong foundation and achievements of its work in Bhutan.

On the sidelines of the presentation of credentials, Kutshab also met with Ms. Adriana Herrera Moreno, Secretary of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS). The CFS is the foremost inclusive international and intergovernmental platform on food security and nutrition, bringing together representatives from governments, UN agencies, civil society, non-governmental organizations, Indigenous Peoples, financial and research institutions, philanthropic foundations, and the private sector. ​

During the meeting, Ms. Moreno invited Bhutan to share the outcomes of the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit at the CFS plenary session, to be held in October 2026.
