🎙️ Statement by а Russian representative at the 62th session of the UN Human Rights Council during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea:

📍 June 15, 2026, Geneva

🇪🇷 We note the efforts of the Eritrean government to improve the human rights situation. The restriction of the death penalty and the actions of the Eritrean government aimed at ensuring equal access for citizens to education and healthcare, as well as protecting trade union activities deserve positive assessment.

🤝 Taking into account the challenging socio-economic situation in Eritrea, Russia is assisting Asmara in the gradual normalization of the situation and in improving the population's standard of living by expanding trade and economic ties and developing cooperation in educational, humanitarian, and other areas.

📣 We call on other states to follow Russia's example. It is also necessary to abandon the practice of exerting foreign policy pressure on Eritrea, including through human rights issues. In this context, we categorically oppose the practice of regularly extending the mandate of the relevant country's special rapporteur, which has proven ineffective over its fourteen years of existence. We believe that the assessment of the situation in Eritrea should be based on an objective, non-politicized approach. Interaction with the Eritrean side should be based on respect for its sovereignty and national interests. The Council, its special procedures, and mechanisms should assist in the promotion and protection of human rights, rather than imposing their approaches on the Eritrean leadership.

🎙️ Statement by а Russian representative at the 62th session of the UN Human Rights Council during the dialogue with the Fact-Finding Mission in Sudan:

📍 June 15, 2026, Geneva

🇸🇩 For three years now, bloody fighting has continued in Sudan between the regular army and rebels from the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The armed confrontation, which continues with fluctuating fortunes, has had its most devastating impact on the civilian population.

💥 Recently, there have been reports of intense clashes between army units and the RSF in Sudan's border with Ethiopia. The situation along the border with Chad also remains unstable. The RSF is actively using drones, including to strike civilian targets, among them Khartoum International Airport. All of this is deeply concerning us.

🕊 We are in the earliest possible end to the armed confrontation and the resumption of intra-Sudanese dialogue. However, the actions of the RSF rebels, who are attempting to establish parallel government bodies in the territories they control in Darfur and Kordofan, not only fail to contribute to this, but, on the contrary, objectively serve to perpetuate the country's division. We advocate for the preservation of the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Sudan. We see the Supreme (Sovereignty) Council as the highest legitimate authority in the country.

🇺🇳 Given the numerous peace initiatives, we believe it appropriate for the UN to play a central role in ensuring the consolidation of various approaches. At the same time, we categorically oppose any external interference in Sudan's affairs. The Sudanese people can and must resolve their internal problems independently.

⚡️ Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus have published their third Joint Report on the human rights situation in selected countries.

👉 Read the Report in full: shorturl.at/R4NpR

The document follows up on the annual reports by MFAs of Russia and Belarus on the human rights situation around the world and is designed to support our joint efforts to draw the attention of the international community to the challenges and threats facing modern society in the field of human rights protection.

👉 First Joint Report: shorturl.at/isTht
👉 Second Joint Report: shorturl.at/907MW

The report will be presented on June 30, July 7 and July 9 during conferences at the Executive Committee in Minsk, at the headquarters in Vienna, and on the sidelines of the 62nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The information collected in the report clearly exposes a very serious problem of our time – the spread of ideologies that seek to justify inequality.

In practice, this manifests itself in the growing prevalence of racism, racial discrimination and related intolerance. The danger lies in the fact that these ideologies and practices are used to serve the ambitions of Western countries and eliminate “threats” to their dominance, which they have preserved by fair means or foul for the past 500 years, enabling them to extract disproportionate benefits at the expense of other societies and to the detriment of all humanity.

At first, this dominance was maintained directly – through the exploitation of colonies, the siphoning off of resources, the organisation of slavery, and so on. Today, neocolonial methods are widely used.

⚠️ And the West sees the “threat” in the alternative offered by Russia, Belarus and other countries pursuing independent domestic and foreign policies.

The West has designated them as its competitors and even adversaries. In this way, it justifies its aggressive policy, stopping at nothing and using any measures – often illegal ones – against those it finds undesirable.

***

Confrontation is being deliberately fuelled, and pressure on sovereign states is mounting. Direct interference in their internal affairs, including through the use of force, is also being employed. Across the globe, the West is creating zones of conflict and seeking to impose its own rules, following the old colonial maxim of “divide and conquer”.

This is happening at a time when the European – and, more broadly, Western – model of social development, along with the Euro-Atlantic security model, has discredited itself. Through its actions, the West is making it increasingly clear that it is unable to defend its own development models in fair competition, and is therefore sinking ever deeper into the unseemly politicisation of all areas of interaction, while only creating more and more problems for those it has declared to be its “competitors”.

Since 2022, the West has been actively using the illegitimate neo-Nazi regime in Kiev as a geopolitical and military foothold against Russia. More recently, it has begun floating the idea of using the Kiev junta against the Republic of Belarus as well.

Only truly equal cooperation among all states gives humanity a chance to completely eradicate colonialism and its modern forms. And only such interaction will prevent individual countries from bending the system of international law to their will and using its universal human rights mechanisms for selfish purposes.

Unlike similar Western studies, the report prepared jointly by the Foreign Ministries of Russia and Belarus is not intended to lecture or moralise.

☝️ This Joint Report summarises factual information on human rights violations in the countries mentioned. 👉 The right to pass moral judgment on them remains with the readers.

🇷🇺 On June 11, our Permanent Mission to the UN Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva held a grand Russia Day reception.

🤝 We were happy to welcome a lot of guests on our national holiday, including senior representatives of the UN Office in Geneva and other international organizations, ambassadors and diplomats from various missions, journalists, Russian compatriots and Swiss friends.

💬 In his welcoming speech, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Gennady Gatilov, noted:

⚪️ For us, June 12 symbolizes the continuity of Russian statehood, the unity of our multinational country, and our commitment to sovereign development.

🔵 As the largest country in the world by territory, Russia became multinational and multilingual home to almost two hundred nationalities.

🔴 Today, Russia continues to pursue its development based on the principles of the UN Charter: sovereignty, equality, social justice, and respect for cultural and civilizational diversity. We remain committed to ensuring the well-being of our citizens, advancing science, education and innovation, and preserving our rich cultural and historical legacy for future generations.

❗️Unfortunately, today we have to work in a fragmented disunited Organization that is not adequately responsive to emerging challenged and threats. This is largely due to position of a group of countries that is imposing its political agenda and so called rules based world order which has nothing in common with the principles of the UN Charter.

☝️ In the near future, the World Organization will have much to do to return to the path of coordinating collective decisions that meet the interests of all states.

🖼 🎼 The exhibition of paintings "From ocean to ocean" by Russian artist Georgiy Shilov, dedicated to iconic places of our great country, was presented to the visitors. A vibrant performance by the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music teachers Aleksey Vaker (piano) and Ilona Ananyina (soprano) had a great success.

🎙 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s statement on the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement (June 8, 2026)

💬 We have noted that in recent times, a number of think tanks funded by Western government structures have once again begun promoting various “alternative schemes” for the future of Palestine.

Specifically, these entities are reviving questionable proposals implying the association of Palestinian territories with neighbouring Arab states.

There is nothing new in these leaks. Similar ideas have been voiced before and have been firmly rejected both by the Palestinian people and by Arab states. History has demonstrated that these initiatives are absolutely untenable and at variance with the international legal framework for Palestinian settlement, including UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, as well as the Madrid Principles.

The advocates of these “alternative concepts” are those who undermine the aforementioned decisions, disregard the will of the peoples of the region, and espouse neo-colonialism.

Instead of pursuing the dismantling of international law and engaging in detached experimentation, the tragic consequences of which are evident to all, efforts should focus on launching direct negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis. In practical terms, the parties should address the final status of the Palestinian territories and the parameters of the two-state formula, which must be acceptable to all parties involved.

We have repeatedly stressed that attempts to proceed with Middle East settlement while bypassing the positions of Arab states are doomed to failure and will not lead to sustainable stability. This is particularly relevant today, when the security of the Middle East is being tested by a new acute crisis provoked by the US and Israeli attack on Iran. The only viable alternative in this context is the establishment of coordinated international and regional efforts.

The Russian stance is characterised by consistency and is based on the trust shown by countries of the region in our foreign policy. We advocate a negotiated settlement of the Palestinian issue and other regional contradictions.

🇵🇸 It is essential that historical justice prevail, and that the Palestinians be given the opportunity to establish an independent state in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, with its capital in East Jerusalem, coexisting in peace and security with Israel.

We are open to engagement on this basis with constructively minded partners. It is important that all external actors strictly adhere to binding UN Security Council resolutions, act according to unified rules, and send coordinated signals to all parties to the conflict.

Russia’s initiatives, in particular the UN-endorsed proposal to convene an international conference on the Middle East, are aimed precisely at achieving these objectives.
