To better understand and prepare for complex risks, the United Nations has conducted a risk perception survey on 1,300 stakeholders across 155 countries.

Key Findings 💡:

➡️ The global risk landscape has become more complex and more dynamic.

➡️ Political risks moved to the center. The risk of large-scale war was seen as especially prominent and increasingly imminent – 36% of respondents now expect it within one year.

➡️ Concerns about AI and frontier technologies, including the risk of power concentration, rose sharply.

➡️ Climate change inaction remains the single most important of all 28 risks, though environmental risks as a category slightly decreased in perceived importance.

➡️ Six years after the Covid-19 pandemic, attention has shifted. Perceived importance of biorisks and new pandemics fell more than any other risk measured.

➡️ Joint action between governments is still perceived as the most effective response to global risks.

Did you know caves and karst landscapes cover nearly a quarter of the Earth's land surface? 🌍 Formed over millennia by the slow dissolution of soluble rock, these hidden worlds supply drinking water to more than a billion people, shelter unique subterranean life, and hold irreplaceable geological and cultural records.

Caves and karst features turn up in an estimated 15–25% of all UNESCO-designated sites, across its Global Geoparks, Biosphere Reserves and World Heritage networks combined.

13 September is the first International Day of Caves and Karst.

Human rights are the essentials we all share, the common ground that unites us across differences of race, gender, belief, or background. In a world of uncertainty, human rights remain our everyday constants.

When everything feels unstable, your right to safety, to speak freely and to participate in decisions that affect us, become the bedrock of our lives.
