OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE MIGRATION INITIATIVE
The Migration Initiative aims to promote engagement with and awareness‐raising about the dilemmas and issues faced by individuals and non‐state actors in the face of the contemporary migration crisis. The initiative places itself firmly in the humanist tradition, without discarding broader dialogues on policy and economic impact. To this end, we aim to facilitate volunteering, fundraising, experience sharing and collaboration for the maintenance and promotion of the fundamental human rights of migrants, with emphasis on refugee and asylum seeker populations.
The Migration Initiative is looking to expand its team and hope that you can share your interest in Migration issues with us this year! 1. Communication coordinator
Job description:
The Migration Initiative is looking for someone who wants to be in charge of the smooth running of the internal and external communication of the organisation. The position would require to take minutes of meetings and communicate relevant information to the team, be in charge of the mailing newsletter, support the promotion of the Migration Initiative on social media platforms and communicate via emails to potential partners.
Job requirements:
Strong communication skills
A knowledge of social media promotion is required
Graphic designing skills is a plus
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong written skills
Proficiency in English required, knowledge of French is a plus
2. Event and project coordinator
Job description:
The Migration Initiative is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic event and project coordinator. As the school year is about to start, we need someone who can lead projects and coordinate events throughout the year. In addition to supporting the planning and logistics of social events, the Event and project coordinator will also have the opportunity to explore and expand the potential of the Migration Initiative by brainstorming and leading new projects. Particularly in times of COVID-19, we are looking for someone who can be flexible and adaptable to the current situation while helping the organization to offer COVID-19-suited events. Overall, this position will help you gain strong management and organizational skills in the migration sector.
Job requirements:
Strong communication, organization and management skills
Strong creative thinking and adaptability skills
Experience with event planning preferred
Project Management skills is a plus

Proficiency in English required, knowledge of French is a plus
3. French language class coordinator
Job description:
The Migration Initiative is looking for a friendly and communicative person that wants to support and eventually take over the coordination of the French courses that our initiative is offering to refugees living in Geneva. The courses take place twice a week and are open to beginners as well as to more advanced learners of the French language.
It will be your responsibility to welcome new students and to match these with the French teachers that give the courses on a voluntary basis. Additionally, you should be flexible and reorganize groups in the cases that either students or teachers are absent. It is relevant that you are available either on Monday and/or Wednesday evening when the courses take place.
It is a very fruitful work since you are working directly together with both the teachers and the students that very much enjoy the intercultural learning experience.

Proficiency in French is required, knowledge of other languages (especially Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese) is a plus
4.Ethics coordinator
Job description:
As the Migration Initiative is touching on sensitive issues, we want to make sure that any projects, events or programs are following certain ethical values. This means, ensuring the integrity and safety of any MI participants, promoting ideas that are not harmful to any members of the MI community and creating a safe and inclusive space.
One of the tasks of the Ethics coordinator will be to develop and draft a guide of conduct for the language classes and for events potentially in collaboration with other IHEID bodies. The Ethics coordinator will also work closely with the team to check that any project is following the proposed guidelines.

Be able to draft guidelines

Be able to give constructive feedback

Proficiency in English required
5. English/French Teacher for Refugees
The Migration Initiative is organizing French and English courses for refugees that want to improve either their English or French skills. If you are interested in supporting the refugees in this learning experience, please sign up as an English or French teacher!
You will give a class to a group of 3 to 5 students once a week. The French courses take place on Wednesday and Monday and the English classes on Tuesday - always from 6.15pm to 7.45pm. Due to the pandemic we are not completely sure whether we can offer the courses at the institute. Should this not be the case, we will always give you the opportunity to conduct the classes online. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our initiative!
