💡 Don't forget travel insurance this summer

Wherever you are going, unexpected situations can happen.

Waiting for your passport?

You can use the application status tracker on our website to keep an eye on its progress.

Don’t worry if the status hasn’t changed for a while. Your application may still be moving through important checks and processing stages. Each step – from lodged to received and approved – takes time.

Once we approve your application, we'll print your passport and either send it to you by mail, or have it ready for collection from your nearest passport office.

Remember passport applications can take up to 6 weeks to be finalised, so be sure to allow enough time before you travel.

🇨🇭 Enjoying Switzerland this summer? Travel smart and stay safe. ☀️

A little preparation can help make your trip even safer:

🎒 Protect your valuables - While Switzerland is generally very safe, pickpocketing can occur in busy tourist areas. Keep your bags closed, valuables out of sight and stay aware of your surroundings.

🚆 Be alert when using public transport - Trains, trams and buses can be crowded during the summer season. Keep an eye on your belongings, particularly when boarding or disembarking, and avoid leaving bags unattended.

🏊 Take care around lakes and rivers - Swiss lakes and rivers are popular for swimming, but water temperatures, currents and conditions can change quickly. We recommend to only swim in designated areas, supervise children closely and take note of local safety advice.

As the travel season gets underway, one of the most common reasons for disrupted travel is an invalid or expired passport.

Before you pack your bags, make sure you:
✅ Check your passport's expiry date well in advance
✅ Ensure your passport has enough validity for your destination's entry requirements
✅ Apply for renewal early, as demand can increase during the summer months

Remember: Some countries require your passport to be valid for several months beyond your planned departure date. A passport that is technically valid may still not meet entry requirements.
