New from the FCDO-supported WASH Systems for Health programme 📌

"System strengthening" has become one of the sector's most-used phrases but how well is it actually working? This new systematic review takes a hard look at the evidence.

Searching the literature for WASH system strengthening (WASH-SS) interventions with at least six months of follow-up, the review found just 17 studies that met the inclusion criteria. This is a striking gap given how central system strengthening has become to WASH policy and programming.

📖 Our 2025 Annual Report is out!

This year wasn't easy. Funding shocks rippled through the sector, longtime programs closed, and we said goodbye to two people who shaped this network and this field: Catarina de Albuquerque, whose work underpinned the human right to water, and Erich Baumann, who founded RWSN back when it was still the Handpump Technology Network. We carry a lot of what they built forward.

But 2025 also reminded us what this network is for. A few things we are proud of:

💧 2,189 people from 150+ countries joined our webinars this year
🌍 488 mentees across 81 countries went through our mentoring program and 100% said they'd recommend it
📚 18,824 documents downloaded from our library
🤝 17,875 members strong, with our first country chapter launched in Ecuador

As our Chair Dr. James Origa, Ph.D put it: "a network's character is revealed by how it responds when conditions turn hostile. Ours responded and

will continue to do so with determination, resilience, and collaboration."

New report alert 📢 Rapid handpump corrosion: components that should last for 8-10 years failing within months of installation.
