WHY IS AN INDEPENDENT MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT GOOD FOR MANIHIKI?
EAA TETAI MEMA INDPENDENT NO MANIHIKI KA RIRO EI E MEA MEITAKI NO MANIHIKI
I know this is the first time the voters on Manihiki have been asked to choose an independent candidate standing against candidates from the two main parties. For a long time, the argument during parliamentary elections in Manihiki is which party will be better for Manihiki, the DEMO or CIP and the candidate that represents that party.
Kua kite au e ko te tuatau mua teia ka tu ei tetai tanagata independent ei mema paramani no Manihiki e I te tarere atu ma tetai tanagta no te nga paati mamaata o te basileia.Kua roa ake nei te tuatau not te au ikianga e ko te tarere anga koia oki ko te DEMO me kare ko te CIP tangata mata nei i teia nga paati
What I bring to the Manihiki people as an INDEPENDENT candidate are the following;
I teia tuatau te apai mai nei au i tetai akatuke anga na roto iaku e tu nei e independent ki o tatou i Manihiki nei:
1. I stand first and foremost for and with the Manihiki people and no one else. I cannot be clearer on this and that’s why I say I stand for one party, Manihiki Party!
The other candidates need to answer the questions, who do they stand for and what do they stand for?
Te tu nei au i raro ake i te irinaki hanga okotai, koia hoki, i te mata, e te angaanga, no te hiti tangata Manihiki. No reira au e karanga atu nei ko taku party I teia ra ko te paati Manihiki. Penei kia akamarama mai toku au taeake e tu nei matou I teia ikiakanga, e te tu nei raua no hai e ko hai ta raua ka tavini, ko ta raua paati, me ko te hiti tanagta Manihiki?
2.What and how does an independent member of parliament, like me, work for the people of Manihiki. Simple! I will work with and support any person or MP, group of MPs, political party or government, who will support any initiative that will benefit the people of Manihiki.
Ka hakapehea tetahi mema independent, mei iaku i te angaanga hanga no te iti tangata Manihiki? Mama hua! Te hakapapu atu nei au e ka turu au i tetai tangata, pupu tangata, tetai paati me kare, tetai kavamani i roto i te paramania te ka turu i tetai akauehanga,me kare, tetahi tamanakohanga te ka riro mai ei meitaki no Manihiki.
2. Issues beyond the border of Manihiki specially of national importance I will of course look at what is best for the country but always with Manihiki in mind. The ability to think independently without blindly following main party lines allows me to make better decisions especially where Manihiki welfare is be involved.
Ko tetahi au tumu manako e puapinga no te basileia ka rauka rai iaku I te kimi manako atu e eaha te meitaki ka rauka mai no te hiti tangata Kuki Airani e no te hiti tangata Manihiki tikai. Kare au e aru patete hua i te au manako o te nga paati rarahi mei tei matau hia.
3. It is true that being an independent MP is more demanding because one does not have the party machinery and support behind you. However, I don’t believe that this is a disadvantage because I have worked in the higher levels of government and in a major party organisation. Therefore, the inner workings of government and indeed in the business community I am very familiar with and have my own network of contacts to work thru on issues concerning Manihiki.
No reira kare au e kite atu ana I tetahi manamanata rahi no teia.
4. The role of independent MPs in parliament and government have been growing over the last few elections. Today Cabinet running government is made up of 50% independent MPs and 50% CIP MP’s. I am willing to bet that there will be more independent candidate elected to parliament at the next general election. Some from small emerging parties and with other independents, will give the two main parties a lot more to think about in forming government. This situation will need a Manihiki MP who has experience and ability to think strategically
E tuhanga korereka atu hoki ta teia au meme independent i roto ite akanohonoho hanga e ko hai ka riro mai ei kavamani no tatou I teia au tuatau ki mua. I roto I teia au tuatau tauia hanga ka hinangaro hia te mema no manihiki kia rauka iaia te karape e te marama ite amo hanga ia Manihiki kia kore tatou e t**a ki muri.
5. For you who is not sure about me been an effective independent MP for Manihiki, what better time to try and see what I can do. The next General election is only around 18 months away. If by that time I have not performed to the standard and level you expected, you can kick me out!
Mei te mea e te hekoko nei koe e me ka puapinga rai Manihiki me riro mai au ei mema paramania e tikahanga takake teia nohou i te tuku mai i tetai tikihanga nohoku kia hakari atu au te ka rauka iaku i te rave. Note mea tuatau poto hua teia, e matahiti tuma, i mua ake ka rave hia ai te ikihanga rahi. Me kare taku au angaanga te taeria ki taku i papahu, me kare tatahau i irinaki, mama hua i a koe i te hakahei ki vaho!
NO TE MARAMA, TE MEITAKI E TE AU
