Report on the Dschang Landslide.

According to reports, they was a landslide and the Dschang hill early today which left the road block and rendered commercial circulations and the emergency unit were quick to respond as they brought in carterpillars and bullduzer trucks and were mounted at the area to clear off the road. However,due to lack of feasibility studies at the site which resulted into a second phase of the landslide triggered by the vibration of the heavy duty trucks, activities were stop as the trucks were covered by the abrupt moving ground.

Vibration from heavy machinery are one of the major anthropogenic causes of landslide.

It is therefore important to first carry out feasible studies and make sure the landslide area can withstand heavy machinery so as to avoid further slide cause by their vibration which can result to fatality of emergency workers or the vulnerable people.

However, no human losses were reported.

More than a dozen people were kill by this landslide.

The second phase of the slide was trigger by the vibration from the heavy duty trucks that were operating. Lack of feasibility studies on the initail slide movement.

A landslide at La Falaise de Dschang in the West region, is reported to have swallowed up some travellers and three bulldozers. The bulldozers were clearing soil from an earlier extensive soil movement which blocked traffic. Travellers say the stretch leading to the Littoral region from the West has been blocked for hours.

The situation of those buried by the soil is yet to be known.
