Leveraging peace journalism for the security and sustainable reintegration of ex-associates in the Far North region of Cameroon:

Journalists from over twenty seven media organs in the Far North Region are being drilled on how to collect, treat and publish information in the DDR process in Cameroon responsibly with the aim to attain sustainable peace.

The capacity building workshop workshop opened on Monday 30th March 2026 in Garoua and will end on Thursday 2nd April 2026.

Opening the workshop, the representative of the National Coordinator of the NDDRC, Mr. Adamu Musa called on the participants to use the workshop as an avenue to acquire efficient professional skills to better report activities in the DDR process.

The workshop is co-organized by the National Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC) and the International Organization for Migration- IOM Cameroon.

At the end of the workshop, participants will understand and put into practice professional activities that enhance the security of ex-associates, develop competences in peace journalism among other good practices in the profession.

Female staff of the NDDRC renewed efforts to uphold the rights and ensure justice for female ex-associates in the DDR Centres.

The National Coordinator of the NDDRC, Mr. Francis Fai Yengo has appreciated the commitment, resilience and determination of female staff of the NDDRC in working for the restoration of peace in Cameroon through the DDR process. In a dinner on Sunday March 8th 2026 at the Head Office in Yaounde to mark the 2026 edition of the International Day of Women, the National Coordinator re-echoed the message of the President of the Republic by stressing that intensive sensitization of the population is a major step to ensure the disarmament of armed combatants in the bushes.

The representative of NDDRC female staff, Mrs. Ngounda Raisa in her speech, thanked the National Coordinator for his visionary leadership evident through the tremendous strides made in the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process in Cameroon.

The National Coordinator, Mr. Francis Fai Yengo was accompanied in the dinner by his wife Mrs. Patience Fai ,directors, special guests and staff of the NDDRC. The female staff thrilled the guests with intellectual and entertaining activities.

Meanwhile , at the DDR Regional Centres in Bamenda, Buea and Mora, female ex-associates participated in march past with messages calling on policy makers to reinforce rights , justice and take action for all women and girls.

Before the closing dinner, week-long activities took place both at the NDDRC Head Office in Yaounde and in the three DDR Centres in Bamenda, Buea and Mora. The activities permitted female ex-associates and female staff of the NDDRC to showcase talents in different ways.

The NDDRC through the National NDDRC Gender Strategy Document has been promoting the rights of women and girls in the DDR Centres.

International Women's Day 2026: Women in the DDR process in Cameroon are upholding positive actions to end armed conflict.

Female ex-associates in the DDR Centres in Bamenda, Buea and Mora and female staff in the NDDRC throughout the week carried out diverse educative and recreational activities ahead of the International Women's Day today Sunday.

In Mora and Bamenda, the women engaged in different meaningful discussions on the contributions of women in a peace process. They were drilled on the need to remove discriminatory barriers and laws that often frustrate the dreams of women and girls.

Besides educative talks, women in the DDR Centre in Buea in the South visited the zoo in Limbe and other leisure places to better reconnect with the community.

At the NDDRC Head Office, women thrilled the public with a display diverse dishes showcasing Cameroon rich culinary. The gastronomy day was chaired by the National Coordinator, Mr Francis Fai Yengo. Prior to that, the women held a round table discussion and a sport walk.

An efficient management of of over two thousand three hundred ex-associates in the DDR Centre Mora demands the devotedness and professionalism of DDR staff .

Staff of the DDR Centre in Mora acquired knowledge in ethics, deontology and administrative writing.

The workshop held Monday 16th February 2026 was organized by the DDR Mora Centre in partnership with the Regional delegation of Public Service and Administrative Reforms in the Far North Region.

Le Comité National de Désarmement, de Démobilisation et de Réintégration (CNDDR) a participé durant trois jours à un atelier régional à Abuja au Nigéria, basé sur la Réintégration socio-économique des ex-combattants. La séance de travail qui a débuté depuis mardi dernier, a été organisée par l'Organisation Internationale pour les Migrations (OIM) et dont les participants sont venus des pays du bassin du lac Tchad.

Pendant la première journée des travaux, un exposé sur les aspects socio-économiques apportés aux ex-combattants par le processus DDR au Cameroun a été présenté par le Responsable du Programme de la Réintégration M. Adamu Musa.

Il est important de noter que cet atelier fait également intervenir les secteurs publics et privés afin de se mettre ensembles et trouver de meilleures solutions pour une Réintégration réussie des ex-combattants dans Le Bassin du Lac Tchad.

Senior officials and experts of the DDR Reintegration Program of the Lake Chad Basin Commission countries have sharpened their skills for a sustainable socio-economic reintegration in the Lake Chad Basin Region.

The officials who are responsible for implementing the Reintegration program in Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria examined workable socio-economic possibilities they could exploit in the reintegration of repentant combatants who have successfully gone through the DDR Centre.

In a high level workshop organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Abuja- Nigeria from the 10th - 12th February 2026, participants brainstormed on necessary social and economic assistance to ex-combatants in the DDR Centres for a smooth transition to civilian life in the community.

Mr. Adamu Musa, Head of the Reintegration Department at the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC) in an impactful presentation used the reintegration of over seven hundred (+700) ex-combatants in the Far North Region of Cameroon in December 2024 to explain numerous socio-economic assistance the NDDRC offered to the ex-combatants in the DDR Centre and continue to do so as they carry out their activities in the community.

The regional workshop funded by the Foreign,Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in the United Kingdom laid emphasis on socio-economic reintegration in the DDR process with particular focus on Public/Private Partnerships(PPPs) within the Lake Chad Basin Region.

The National Coordinator of the NDDRC specifies guidelines for the National DDR Strategy for Cameroon:

The National Coordinator of the NDDRC, Mr. Francis Fai Yengo has recommended a National DDR Strategy for Cameroon that embodies national priorities, regional dynamics and aligns with international standards.

He made the pronouncement Tuesday 9th December 2025 in Yaounde while officially opening a seminar on the elaboration and technical validation of the National DDR Strategy for Cameroon.

H.E. Monono Churchill, Cameroon's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and the African Union present at the opening session, lauded the initiative of the NDDRC to produce a blueprint document that will henceforth guide the implementation of the DDR process.

The DDR Officer at the African Union, Mrs. Lina Imran Abdullahi restated her institution's availability to fully support Cameroon not only in the drafting of the National DDR Strategy for Cameroon but equally in the implementation for the attainment of peace in Cameroon.

This seminar comes two weeks after the first that set a plan for the writing of the document. Participants of the seminar include staff of NDDRC, technical ministries, international partners and civil society organizations (CSOs).

The two-day seminar (9-10 December) will end with the technical validation of the National DDR Strategy for Cameroon.

The development of the DDR National Strategy for Cameroon is on course:

The National Coordinator of the NDDRC, Mr. Francis Fai Yengo has underscores the need for a Disarmament , Demobilization and Reintegration National Strategy that will act as a guiding nationally own document for the implementation of the DDR process in Cameroon. This was during the launch of a two day seminar(25th -26th ) November 2025 in Yaounde. The seminar focuses equipping national actors in the DDR process on the elaboration of the strategy document.

Participants of the seminar are staff of the NDDRC, representatives of technical ministries and civil society actors.

Mrs. Lina Abdoulai, representative of the African Union (AU) in the seminar expressed the Union's willingness to support the NDDRC in all aspects towards the realization of this important document. In a related view, the representative of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC)Mr. Hycinth Bangseka called on the NDDRC and Cameroon to equally pay attention to the security context of neighbouring countries in the Lake Chad Basin Region in the course of writing the document.

Paul Biya makes fresh calls on armed fighters to accept government's olive branch and lay down their arms:

The President of the Republic H.E. Paul Biya has reiterated calls for armed fighters in the Far North, North West and South West Regions to surrender to the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Centres.

While taking oath of office for a new mandate on Thursday November 6th 2025, the President of the Republic called for the intensification of community dialogue to facilitate the reintegration ex-associates trained in the DDR Centres.

Paul Biya equally used the occasion to caution members of armed groups who despite appeal calls continue to reign terror on innocent population. He challenged them to be ready to face the consequences of their barbaric actions.

The President however , appreciated friendly countries that have began the process of prosecuting those hiding in their countries yet fueling terrorism in Cameroon.

He encouraged other countries to follow suit.

President Paul Biya, it should be noted, holds strongly that terrorism is a global scourge that must be combated vigorously wherever it shows its ugly face.

International Day of Peace : Ex-associates call for an end to armed conflict.

Ex-associates in the DDR Regional Centre in Mora have called on armed fighters in the bushes to embrace peace, lay down their arms and join the DDR Centres.

This was during a ceremony in Mora today Monday 22nd September 2025 to mark the 44th edition of International Day of Peace. The ex-associates used sketches and other artistic works to pass across messages of peace, tolerance, non- violence and cooperation for a better world.

Through testimonies, they recounted how the DDR Centres have positively transformed their lives to be better citizens.

The International Day of Peace observed every 21st of September was instituted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 to promote peace in the world.

The 2025 edition is holding under the theme "Act Now for a Peaceful World".
