March 3, 2026, Singapore's Ambassador to the China Peter Tan visited Renmin University of China to attend the 14th session of the “Ambassador Forum”. Ambassador Peter Tan delivered a speech on Singapore-China bilateral relations.

Ambassador Peter Tan shared a historical detail to illustrate Singapore-China friendship. In 1978, Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping visited Singapore. Then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew knew Mr Deng had a habit of smoking and specially prepared an ashtray for him. Mr Deng, in return, did not smoke throughout the meeting out of consideration for Mr Lee's sensitivity to smoke.

It was a small gesture from both sides that highlighted the mutual understanding and respect both leaders had for each other, which formed the foundation of Singapore-China relations.

In this episode of 中国宴,Singapore Ambassador to China Peter Tan tries the legendary Manchu Han Imperial Feast (满汉全席) and shares about Singapore hawker culture.

Just like our hawker dishes that reflect Singapore's multiculturalism, the Manchu Han Imperial Feast merges the Manchu and Han food cultures. Both are culinary integrations that stand as symbols to harmony and diversity.

Food has always been an important bridge to connect people and cultures, deepen mutual understanding, and bring people closer together!

The Singapore Embassy in Beijing and the National Youth Achievement Award Council jointly organised the NETS FlashPay Card Design Competition, to commemorate 35th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Singapore and China.

We like to extend our warmest congratulations to Ms Annie Chu from ITE College Central's School of Design and Media for submitting the winning design for the NETS FlashPay Card Design Competition.

Her winning design creatively blended cultural elements of Singapore and China, and encapsulated the essence of Singapore – China relations.

【Ambassador’s Visit to Guangxi】

On 19 December 2025, Singapore's Ambassador to China Peter Tan attended the Opening Ceremony of Shopping in China (Guangxi) and the 2026 Guangxi Silk Road E-Commerce Carnival. The event celebrated the growing trade cooperation between ASEAN and China, bolstered by the recent ASEAN-China Free Trade Area 3.0 upgrade.

As the only Western China province with direct access to the sea, Guangxi plays a key role as China’s gateway to ASEAN. Recognising Guangxi’s unique value, Singapore companies have invested in Guangxi’s infrastructure and logistics sectors, contributing towards the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (CCI-ILSTC).

The event was attended by key leaders from Guangxi, including Guangxi Party Secretary Chen Gang, People’s Government Chairperson Wei Tao, Vice Chairperson Lu Xinning, and Party Committee Secretary General Zhou Yijue. Ambassador Peter Tan and Guangxi Party Secretary Chen Gang affirmed the strong cooperation between Singapore and Guangxi, and discussed ways to deepen ties between our regions.

Singapore will continue to work closely with Guangxi to unlock new avenues of trade and investments, and bring the relationship to new heights!

【Engagement Sessions with Singapore Students and Educators】

Over the past few weeks, the Singapore Embassy in Beijing had the pleasure of engaging students from New Town Secondary School, Peicai Secondary School, Dunman High School, CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School, and Raffles Institution.

Ambassador Peter Tan and our colleagues thoroughly enjoyed the conversations. The students raised thoughtful questions on Singapore–China relations, as well as regional and international developments. These exchanges would not have been possible without the dedication, passion, and heart work of our wonderful teachers — thank you for nurturing curious minds!

We were also delighted to welcome a group of Chinese Language teachers who were in Beijing to learn more about Chinese Language pedagogy and curriculum in China. We are glad to hear that their visit was meaningful and fruitful.

We look forward to opening the Embassy’s doors to more educators and students in Beijing!
