๐Ÿ’™30 July marks the International Day against Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking refers to the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring, or receipt of persons through force, coercion, deception, or other means for the purpose of exploitation. Examples include forced labour, sexual exploitation, forced marriage, and organ trafficking. These practices constitute grave violations of fundamental human rights. Every year, thousands of people around the world fall victim to these crimes.

To raise awareness of human trafficking, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) launched the Blue Heart Campaign. This yearโ€™s campaign, entitled โ€œTrapped behind the scamโ€ focuses on the growing global threat posed by organized criminal groups that traffic and exploit people, forcing them to participate in large-scale online fraud and financial scam operations.

The fight against human trafficking is a key priority of Diplomatie.Belgium. Belgium actively promotes international cooperation to prevent and combat this form of crime. Our country is also a major contributor to the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons.

At the national level, the Belgian authorities have taken a range of measures to identify victims, facilitate reporting, and prevent abuse. For example, dedicated mechanisms have been established to enable victims and witnesses to report suspected cases of human trafficking. In addition, Belgium has three specialized reception centres that provide assistance, protection, and support to victims of human trafficking and work closely with the government and law enforcement authorities.

On 27 July, the Blue Heart Campaign was officially launched in Belgium during a press conference led by Minister of Justice Annelies Verlinden. On that occasion, she emphasized the importance of continuing our efforts to protect victims of human trafficking and strengthening cooperation at all levels to put an end to this abhorrent form of crime.

Together, let us make the fight against human trafficking a priority ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’Loyal followers of the Belgian Embassy in Beijing will already know that, this spring, two golden snub-nosed monkeys were born at Pairi Daiza. This species is among the rarest primates in the world and is endemic to the mountainous forests of central China.

In May 2025, three golden snub-nosed monkeys arrived at Pairi Daiza under a ten-year cooperation agreement between the zoo and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. The Embassy was honoured to have played a part in facilitating this collaboration. Pairi Daiza is one of the very few zoos outside China to host golden snub-nosed monkeys and had the distinction of being the first zoo outside Asia where golden snub-nosed monkey babies were born.

More than 8,600 people responded to Pairi Daiza's appeal to vote for the names of the two female baby monkeys. On 23 July, during a ceremony marking their first 100 days, their names were officially revealed at Pairi Daiza in the presence of the Ambassador of China to Belgium, H.E. Fei Shengchao, and many other distinguished guests.

The older of the two monkeys was named Zhenzhen (็็), meaning "precious and beautiful as a pearl", while the younger was given the name Xile (ๅ–œไน), meaning "joy and happiness in life".

In addition to the now five golden snub-nosed monkeys, visitors to Pairi Daiza can admire many other Chinese animal species. The most famous are undoubtedly the giant pandas, but the park is also home to red pandas, snow leopards, Asiatic black bears, golden takins, and Franรงois' langurs.

We hope that the fruitful cooperation between Pairi Daiza and Chinese institutions will continue for many years to come!

๐ŸSpa-Francorchamps - the world's most beautiful race track!

This weekend, the eyes of the global motorsport world will be on Belgium for the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. It will be the 59th time the circuit has hosted a Formula 1 race, making it one of the most frequently visited venues on the F1 calendar. With a history spanning more than 100 years, the circuit hosts numerous prestigious events in addition to Formula 1, including the annual 24 Hours of Spa endurance race.

Nestled in the beautiful Ardennes Forest, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful racetracks in the world. Many Formula 1 world champions have expressed their admiration for the circuit, including four-time world champion Max Verstappen, who has said that it should always remain on the calendar, and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

For racing legend Michael Schumacher, Spa-Francorchamps holds a particularly special place in his career. He made his Formula 1 debut at the circuit in 1991 and claimed his first Grand Prix victory there just one year later. Schumacher would go on to win five more Belgian Grands Prix at Spa-Francorchamps and secured his seventh and final World Championship title at the track in 2004. He also cited the circuit's rich history as one of the reasons it was his favourite track.

The circuit features numerous iconic corners, including the La Source hairpin, Les Combes chicane, and Blanchimont. However, the most famous and arguably most challenging section is the Eau Rouge-Raidillon combination, a sequence of high-speed corners that climbs steeply uphill. This dramatic elevation change is not always apparent on television, but the hill has a gradient of around 18%, meaning drivers cannot see beyond the crest as they approach it. This makes it a significant technical challenge, especially as cars can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h through this section of the track!

The Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps will start on Sunday at 9:00 PM Beijing time. Buckle up for an exciting race at the world's most beautiful racing circuit!

๐Ÿ’œ At the end of May, we introduced you to the festivals Extrema Outdoor and Gladiolen. Since then, the Belgian summer festival season has continued at full speed, with events such as Couleur Cafรฉ, Paradise City, Live Is Live, and many more. Today, we would like to talk about Belgiumโ€™s biggest music festival in terms of daily attendance: #๐‘๐จ๐œ๐ค๐–๐ž๐ซ๐œ๐ก๐ญ๐ž๐ซ! ๐ŸŽŠ

It all started in 1975, when a youth organization in the town of , not far from Leuven, organized a music festival in their village. Two years later, they began cooperating with a group from , a town in West Flanders. This marked the beginning of a remarkable era in which the same festival was held in both towns during the same weekend, with the same bands and artists performing at each location. During the 1980s and 1990s, Torhout-Werchter, as it was then known, welcomed major international acts such as Dire Straits, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, The Cure, U2, Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, Van Morrison, R.E.M., Depeche Mode, Bryan Adams, Sting, Pixies, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Bob Dylan, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, and many, many more.

๐ŸคŸ In 1999, organizer Herman Schueremans made the importantโ€”and for Torhout, painfulโ€”decision to continue the festival exclusively in Werchter as a three-day event. The second stage was moved to a tent known as the Pyramid Marquee, providing smaller bands with an opportunity to perform. Four years later, a fourth festival day was added, and since then both the festival grounds and capacity have expanded significantly. โญ

This year, the headliners included #๐šƒฬฒ๐š‘ฬฒ๐šŽฬฒ๐™ฒฬฒ๐šžฬฒ๐š›ฬฒ๐šŽฬฒ, ๐™ผฬฒ๐šžฬฒ๐š–ฬฒ๐šฬฒ๐š˜ฬฒ๐š›ฬฒ๐šฬฒ & ๐š‚๐š˜ฬฒ๐š—ฬฒ๐šœฬฒ, #๐™ถฬฒ๐š˜ฬฒ๐š›ฬฒ๐š’ฬฒ๐š•ฬฒ๐š•ฬฒ๐šŠฬฒ๐šฃฬฒ, #๐šƒฬฒ๐š ฬฒ๐šŽฬฒ๐š—ฬฒ๐šฬฒ๐šขฬฒ๐™พฬฒ๐š—ฬฒ๐šŽฬฒ๐™ฟฬฒ๐š’ฬฒ๐š•ฬฒ๐š˜ฬฒ๐šฬฒ๐šœฬฒ, ๐šŠฬฒ๐š—ฬฒ๐šฬฒ #๐šƒฬฒ๐š‘ฬฒ๐šŽฬฒ๐šกฬฒ๐šกฬฒ. Thanks to its international lineup, visitors from all over the world attend the festival each year. As you walk around the festival grounds, you can hear a wide variety of languages spoken by people from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and many other countries, all enjoying the unique atmosphere and outstanding performances.

The Balogun decision seemed to have given the Red Devils wings, as they started furiously. The USA goalkeeper already had to produce one of his best saves on a strike from Timothy Castagne after only two minutes. A couple of minutes later, ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ƒ๐ž ๐Š๐ž๐ญ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ž๐ซ๐ž found the net and Belgium capitalized on their strong start. โ— After 22 minutes, the feeling among the Belgians worsened considerably, because Amadou Onana, who surprisingly started instead of Kevin De Bruyne, had to be substituted due to injury and, even more importantly, the USA scored the equalizer from a deflected free kick. Good start wiped out, but the Belgians kept pushing and after a nice move, Leandro Trossard flicked the ball into the penalty area, giving De Ketelaere a golden opportunity two score his second goal. 2-1 Belgium after 45 minutes.

The USA took the initiative in the opening minutes of the second half but was unable to create any clear chances. Then, just before the hour mark, ๐‡๐š๐ง๐ฌ ๐•๐š๐ง๐š๐ค๐ž๐ง, took advantage of an error of the American goalkeeper and beautifully placed the ball into the bottom-right corner. Doku and all-time leading goalscorer Romelu Lukaku came on and helped Belgium to control the game. The USA struggled to create chances against Belgiumโ€™s solid defensive block. In the final ten minutes, Thibaut Courtois was called into action for his only real save of the game, stopping a shot from Balogun.

So how come the monkeys are so far away from home? ๐Ÿค—

On 14 May 2025, three golden snub-nosed monkeys - the females Juan Juan and Lu Lu, and the male Liuyun - arrived at . Under a ten-year lease signed between Pairi Daiza and the China Wildlife Conservation Association ( ), the monkeys will live at the Pairi Daiza in Belgium and will be returned to China at the end of the collaboration. Their transfer, quarantine and adaptation were carried out under the joint supervision of European and Chinese teams, in facilities specially designed to reproduce the conditions of their natural habitat. The Embassy worked closely with Chinese partners and Pairi Daiza to make sure everything went smoothly. This birth is proof that when working together, good things happen. ๐Ÿ’•

On March 17, 2026, a baby golden snub nosed monkey was born at Pairi Daiza zoo in Belgium. That was the first time one of these precious monkeys has ever been born outside Asia.

๐Ÿ“ŒThis new babe is the fruit of a scientific partnership between Chinese and Belgian breeding institutions, aimed at actively contributing to the preservation of the species.
