As part of our celebration of Philippine Independence Day and our shared love for Filipino food, the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai invites members of the Filipino community in Shanghai and the provinces of Anhui, Hubei, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang to an adobo cook off!
This is a friendly cooking competition to celebrate our de facto national dish โ adobo. Whether you cook chicken, pork, seafood, or a plant-based version, we want to see your signature twist on this Filipino classic.

๐๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ฒ: Each registered entry will receive RMB 50 from the Consulate to subsidize the cost of ingredients. Receipts must be submitted on the day of the event.

Each entry may be either:
Individual (solo cook) โ One person prepares and presents the dish, OR
Duo (two persons) โ Tandem prepares and presents the dish.
๐. ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐๐๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ซ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ
Each entry must prepare one (1) Adobo dish. Any main ingredient is allowed (chicken, pork, tofu, mushroom, seafood, etc.).

Participants will cook their adobo at home prior to the event.
On 12 June 2026, the day of the cook-off, each contestant must bring their already-cooked adobo to the Consulate in a sealed container before 5:00 pm
No on-site cooking will be done.
๐. ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง & ๐๐๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง
The Consulate will provide the plate or platter or bowl needed for presentation of each contestantโs adobo for judging.
Contestants will be given 30 minutes to plate their adobo. At 6:00 p.m., contestants will then bring out their plated adobo and place it on their assigned table. The judges will go to each table during which each contestant will :
Explain: 1)The ingredients they used, 2)The step-by-step cooking process (e.g., marinating time, searing technique, simmering method, special secret ingredients).
Share the background story behind their recipe (family recipe; recipe discovered accidentally, etc.) Answer brief questions from the judges.

Pre-cooked adobo in a container. The amount of adobo should be good enough for three judges to taste only.
Optional: Small portable warmer or thermos if you wish to keep the dish hot Utensils for serving.
