昭覺寺位於成都市北郊5公里，素有川西“第一叢林”之稱，在唐貞觀年間（627-649）改為佛剎，名建元寺，宣宗時賜名“昭覺”。宋崇寧年間（1102-1106）佛果克勤（宋高宗賜號圓悟禪師）說法於寺，覆名昭覺。南宋紹興初年，敕改昭覺為禪林。明崇禎十七年（1644年）毀於兵火。清康熙二年（1663年）重修。殿宇規模宏大，林木蔥蘢，為成都著名古剎之一。
