Gong Chenxi [China] is the founder of Atelier Wo-Land. Her Intervention in Yangshantou Village was shortlisted for the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Award and recognised as highly commended for AR Public awards. She understands the architect as a kind of anthropologist — someone whose practice is grounded in understanding for the sake of imagination. Through site-specific interventions, analytical mapping, and teaching, she seeks to awaken perception and activate the often-overlooked ties between space, landscape, history, and collective life.

🧩 Co-creation and artistic practice
🔗 What is the foundation of an equitable collaboration? How does working together influence artistic practice? What challenges do partners encounter along the way? Partners from five supported co-creation projects share their experiences.
💡 With the measure co-creation, Pro Helvetia supports projects that are jointly developed by Swiss artists and their counterparts in the regions of its liaison offices. The measure is designed to strengthen artistic practices that have emerged through earlier residencies, research trips or independent collaborations and to give them time, continuity and space to unfold.
⌛ Application deadline: 1 June 2026

In our May newsletter, we turn our attention to a vibrant and growing dimension of cultural dialogue: the presentation of Swiss artists in China through the format of exhibitions.

Over the past months, we have witnessed a remarkable range of projects that go well beyond the mere display of works: Julian Charrière, David Moser, Pauline Agustoni/ Ivo Allgoewer/ Léon Félix/ Noemi Niederhauser/ Reto Pulfer, and Elisa Shua Dusapin. Genuine exchange happens when artists are present to meet local audiences and hold events that transform a static presentation into a living conversation.

Here, we're glad to share a handful of such moments across visual art, design, and literature.

We’ve moved, but not too far!

Pro Helvetia Shanghai now has a new location, just a stone’s throw away from where we have stayed for the past seven years. If you’ve ever wandered through Yuyuan Road, you’ll know it’s a place where old industrial bones meet fresh creative spirits. Red brick walls shaded by large camphor trees. Thanks for updating your address books!

🎭 A new chapter in Swiss–Chinese theatre is unfolding

🌍🤝 The ReJU Plan has grown from a pandemic workaround into a long-term model for international co-creation. Over four years, it has developed into an incubator where playwrights, translators, directors, and actors collaborate across borders—continuously, creatively, and with sustained artistic presence.

For Swiss theatre makers, ReJU offers a unique remote ‘residency’ within a dynamic theatre ecosystem, shaping artistic exchange beyond short-term mobility.
