End the bombings! Protect migrant workers and civilians!
We gather no benefit in war. PIN@Y Careworkers Transnational condemns the ongoing attacks endangering innocent civilians who desire no conflict. The almost 2,500,000 Filipinos across the Middle East, of whom over a million are OFWs, are now caught in the crossfire of the two destructive camps of Iran and US-Israel. The endangering of civilians, migrants, and children cannot be dismissed as collateral damage, especially when this conflict serves none but the ruling elites of the aggressor states.
Among the hundreds murdered since late February is Mary Anne Velasquez De Vera, a migrant Filipino caregiver who died during a bombing of Tel Aviv in Israel. We send our deepest condolences to her loved ones left behind.
With the conflict’s timeline left uncertain, we call on the governments of all affected nations to include and consider migrant workers in the emergency plans put in place. And to our fellow workers, please remain vigilant, alert, and keep up with information released by verified news sources, as well as our DFA, DMW, local MWOs, and OWWA (see comments for hotlines). Stay safe, know your nearest shelters, keep your important documents on hand, and follow safety guidelines.
As the conflict rages on, PIN@Y enjoins the global community in demanding an end to the bombings, and the safety of our peoples.
