The teaching of Spanish as a foreign language in Colombia: topics, trends, and challenges from an exploratory systematic review
This article presents an exploratory systematic review (ESR) of research on the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (SPFL) in Colombia between 2013 and 2023. By analyzing 34 indexed articles, the authors demonstrate sustained growth in scholarly output since 2014, driven by government policies on internationalization. The study reveals that communicative, cultural, and intercultural competencies are the focus of the greatest theoretical efforts, further identifying that private universities lead this research agenda.
