Belgium is one of the world’s Blue Leaders, which is a group of
countries dedicated to protecting our ocean. Our country has been
playing a key role in ocean conservation internationally for some time.
Belgium has decided to join the Ocean Plastics Charter, an initiative
that aims to bring together governments, businesses and civil society
organizations under a commitment to a more resource-efficient and
lifecycle approach to plastics stewardship on land and at sea.

17/05/2026

On the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Intersexphobia (IDAHOT+), marked annually on 17 May, we join our voices with partners and human rights actors in Serbia, across Europe and worldwide to reaffirm our strong commitment to uphold the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights by LGBTI persons.
This year’s theme, “At the heart of democracy”, is a timely reminder that democratic societies should enable all individuals not only to enjoy their fundamental human rights free from violence and discrimination, but also to participate fully in public life. Where inequalities, discrimination and violence persist, democracy cannot thrive. Equality is not optional, it is the bedrock of free and resilient societies.
In line with international standards and obligations, it remains crucial to ensure that the rights of LGBTI persons, including freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and respect for private and family life, are effectively protected in law and in practice.
We encourage continued efforts by all stakeholders to advance equality, strengthen implementation of existing standards and foster inclusive societies grounded in respect, dignity and the rule of law.

Even though we Belgians don’t mind a little storm now and then, Sunday was - unlike this week - full of sunshine, as bright as the faces of everyone who joined us for a warm chat in Dutch.

Organized by EUNIC Srbija and Piknik, the Language Café was the perfect way to celebrate Europe, its languages, and its rich diversity.

Thank you to everyone who came and shared the afternoon with us!
