Linking space to user needs
(1)

The EU Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) provides safe and performant space services, enabling synergies, EU innovation, sustainability, and security. To achieve this, EUSPA manages the Galileo and EGNOS programmes, develops markets for Copernicus services and data, is involved in secure satcom (GOVSATCOM & IRIS2), and carries out work in various areas targeted at Security, Research and Devel

opment and increasing space’s contribution to the EU Market. The Agency is also responsible for the security accreditation of all the components of the EU Space Programme. EUSPA also operates the Front Desk, protecting more than 400 satellites from the risk of collision with space debris or other operational satellites.

Building the future of secure connectivity with IRIS²

The European Commission, ESA - European Space Agency, EUSPA, the SpaceRISE consortium and European industry partners have defined the next steps for the deployment of IRIS², Europe's future secure connectivity constellation.

Comprising of 348 satellites across low Earth orbit and medium Earth orbit, IRIS² will provide sovereign, secure and reliable connectivity across Europe and beyond, helping governments, emergency services and citizens stay connected, even in remote areas or during crises.

As the provider of secure, user-oriented services, EUSPA will play a key role in delivering IRIS² services for governmental users, focusing on security accreditation, user needs and service management.

AI is changing how we use space data

Today’s satellites send enormous quantities of data down to Earth, supporting applications ranging from fighting forest fires to navigating self-driving cars and monitoring climate change. Turning these raw data streams into actionable intelligence requires advanced AI.

EUSPA is helping accelerate this transformation by supporting AI-enabled applications built on Europe’s space programmes, including Copernicus, Galileo and EGNOS. Together, they are delivering insights that benefit citizens, businesses and policymakers.

Following the launch of Galileo satellites GSAT0233 and GSAT0234, the Galileo Satellite Metadata has been updated to include these new spacecraft.

The update provides essential information for high-precision GNSS applications, supporting accurate orbit determination and Precise Point Positioning.

The Galileo Satellite Metadata section provides detailed technical information about each satellite’s properties. This data is necessary for implementing advanced processing algorithms used in precise orbit determination or Precise Point Positioning (PPP). They include physical characteristics, the satellite’s attitude law (orientation model) and antenna parameters; all of which are essential for improving orbit accuracy and minimizing positioning errors.

Prague-based aerospace company Zuri.com - VTOL airplane is developing a hybrid-electric tiltrotor aircraft designed for on-demand regional travel, combining the vertical take-off of a helicopter with the efficiency of an aeroplane.

Through the EUSPA-funded Horizon Europe VITOLMINS project, the aircraft will leverage Galileo, EGNOS and Copernicus to enable safe navigation and operations, even in low-visibility conditions. Scheduled to make its first flight at the end of 2026, it represents another step towards the future of European aviation.

Celebrating one year of Galileo OSNMA

July 2026 marks one year since Galileo's Open Service Navigation Message Authentication was declared operational, a key milestone in the continued evolution of Galileo services for users worldwide.

OSNMA enables compatible receivers to verify that navigation information comes from Galileo itself and has not been tampered with, helping mitigate spoofing.

Over the past 12 months, OSNMA has successfully transitioned from a pioneering development project to an operational service, with implementation already underway in a growing range of professional receivers, from smart tachographs to timing and synchronisation systems.

As we celebrate this anniversary, EUSPA is already steering the service towards its next evolution.
