Can I get some advice/help?
I posted the other day about wanting some help on filling out my dental records sheets. This is the sheet we use.
We had different ones when I first started and I offered this that we got in school. I found these to be easier to read, more clear and in color. The acronym word bank is also helpful.
Today, I had a dental that was... dear Heavens. Lol. This 3yr old dog had all her toofers. Nothing missing so I had all the teeth to connect to the numbers on the sheet.
*as you can tell, I had to label my right upper/left upper and such. I'm still learning my numbers and the location of the teeth.*
My first sheet had terrible penmanship, X's and circles. So I rewrote it for the sake of LEARNING on this page.
Can you give me pointers?
Tips and tricks for the numbers?
*yes, I know about dental rads. No, I do not have the equipment for proper dental rads.
*yes, I have started some research and a PowerPoint to present to my doctors to get one.
*one girl/lady in particular on my previous post, I think her name was Sarah? Sara? I know her name started with an S. She was VERY helpful. So I pray 🙏🤞 that she sees this. Because I have more questions for you!!

Hello friends
UPDATE WITH NEW PHOTOS
So most of the swelling was fluid that was very close to the surface. The fluid is opaque red and vast majority neutrophils (consistent with pus). So I am calling this an abscess. I did lance it and flush it. I am concerned there is some skin that looks like it might die and slough. There is some very inflamed tissue causally at the angle of the jaw as well. The fluid was slightly viscous so infected salivary gland is still a possibility.
I took dental x-rays of her entire lower mandible and I can’t see anything wrong with them. As you can see she already has significant gingivitis on her recently cleaned teeth. And the extraction site of 409 does look less healed it should at this stage in my opinion.
Her temp was down to 39.6 this morning and she’s still eating fine and acting okay otherwise.

This dog had a stage II dental exactly a month ago. I extracted many teeth due to advanced periodontal disease on the right side (the left side was done about a month before that). All healed up fine at her recheck 2 weeks ago.
The owner texted me the first 2 pictures last night saying she noticed this oozy swelling suddenly last night. I told her to give metacam and gabapentin and come in this morning. The second 2 photos are of this morning where it has obviously swelled up significantly more overnight. The surface is oozing but there isn’t an obvious hole/fistula. She has a high fever (40.2)
I did extract 402, 403, 409 and 410. The swelling does seem to be more right of midline. It is firm but not boney. The extraction sites appear still mildly inflamed but closed up and healing.
I’ve put her on clavamox and baytril and she’s coming in tomorrow morning for ultrasound, lance and flush if indicated and re-X-ray the bottom teeth/mandible to look for a culprit. I did confirm all teeth came out entirely (no roots left behind). I did not put her on antibiotics after her dental procedures.
I’ve never seen anything like this before following a dental procedure. How could I have caused this?

We had a 2 yo cat present with this a couple weeks ago. We anesthetized to do rads. Did not remove these at owers request as they were not causing any problems. Crazy right? What is the consensus on removing these? Rads were tough to get nice view but showed no issues from what we could see.

I work at a cat rescue doing lots of dentals and I need help with canine extrusion in cats. What are the limits for when to extract? I’ve heard some say they extract no matter what if there is extrusion, or is there ever a time it’s okay to leave the tooth for another few years? Is buccal expansion the limit (ie if I see expansion definitely take the tooth) or a certain mm amount of extrusion or are there other parameters to making the final decision?

Curious what you think this is as it threw us for a loop. 3yr old mixbreed K9, presented for an oral mass that owner noticed for a while but recently has gotten larger. Lesion does not bother the dog but owner wants to ensure nothing of concern. Lesion was soft on palpation, seems to originate from the gingiva and does not appear to invade any other structures or cause any additional defects. Our current ddx is an abscess from a FB vs gingival hyperplasia or epulis. We plan to remove and send off for histopath. Just surprised at the size and how squishy it was.

Hello dentist experts! 15yo DSH presented today for rubbing his face on the couch the last few weeks. Still eating normally according to owner. He is fractious so unable to fully examine mouth but was able to observe moderate tartar and ginigivitis and these weird black, raised bumps on the mandibular lip where the maxillary canines contact. Our team is thinking of recommending a dental with biopsy of these areas due to concern for SCC, it’s just a little weird it’s bilateral so wanted it make sure I wasn’t having tunnel vision. Thank you!!
