United in Diversity: the motto of the EU and thereby arguably, a united Europe. Some of those on the Left, intent on espousing anti-Europeanism, would have you believe that this is proof that Europe is to be a diverse and multicultural land in the global sense, with Europe to be some cauldron of all the peoples of the Earth despite our dire demographic crisis. This is ignoring the fact that Europe, being arguably the most culturally and ethnically diverse land on Earth, is already multicultural in the sheer amount of unique and celebrated indigenous cultures it has.
From the numerous Germans to the smallest Samis, Europe is home to many countries containing unique national cultures within myriads of even richer local cultures, a source of pride and identity, but also tragedy with our notable history of continental warfare. Following World War 2 however, our conflicts largely ceased and we began to cast down our wars rather than curse each-other over them. Rather than fostering pointless deaths, we fostered fraternity, recognising the unifying similarities that each of our European national cultures bare. It is in this that we embodied our motto, forging European unity in the recognition of the beauty and glories of each of our own uniquely European peoples. Because of this, a diverse Europe is one that finds unity in the richness of all native European peoples and a multicultural Europe means a Europe that finds strength in the beauty of all European cultures and past glories.
According to the European Commission, "The motto means that, via the , Europeans are united in working together for peace and prosperity and that the many different cultures, traditions and languages in are a positive asset for the continent.". Nowhere in this statement is a call for non-European cultures to replace the indigenous ones Europe already has. Therefore, let the anti-European interpretation of our motto be forever cast to the wind as a dull tool of anti-European propaganda and let us as Europeans embrace our unique native cultures and identities, together in European fraternity on a quest to strengthen our Motherland and take our rightful place as a superpower.
