Save the Homeland
Vote Bavarian People's Party

This is a 102 year old Antique, 1924 political party election poster for the "Bayrische Volkspartei" (BVP - Bavarian People's Party).

It depicts a knight in armor on horseback in blue-and-white (the two colors of Bavaria) holding a jousting lance. Standing beside him is a man, a mother holding a baby and a young boy holding on to her dress. In the background is a silhouette of a town and a white church with red storm clouds.

The Bayerische Volkspartei started after World War One in 1918 and lasted until 1933. It was a conservative Catholic Christian democratic political party in Bavaria during the Weimar Republic.

GERMAN NEWS ~ Poverty rate in Germany reaches new record high

Over 13M people classified as poor, says report by German Parity Welfare Association

Berlin - Germany's poverty rate surged to a record high of 16.1% in 2025, leaving around 13.3 million people listed as poor, according to a report released on Tuesday by the Parity Welfare Association, an umbrella group for charitable organizations in the country.

“Social divisions in Germany are widening. 13.3 million people live in poverty, and the poverty rate has risen to 16.1 percent."

"At the same time, the gap between regions and demographic groups is growing. While poverty is increasing overall, it is becoming particularly entrenched among older adults, women, and single parents," Joachim Rock, the executive director of the association, said in a statement.

“We are seeing a society that is drifting further apart socially. People can feel this. Discussing yet more cuts now fuels fear and uncertainty. This plays into the hands of populists and extremists,” he added.

According to the EU's definition, people are considered at risk of poverty if their income is below 60% of the national median. In Germany, that threshold was €1,446 ($1,683) per month for a single-person household and €3,036 for a household with two adults and two children under 14.

The report said many households were having a hard time to cover everyday expenses as 6.9% of the population lacked sufficient income last year to meet regular living costs, among them higher energy bills and replacing essential household appliances.

With a poverty rate of 19.5%, nearly one in five people aged 65 and older is now affected. Among women over 75, the figure is as high as 21.3%. People living alone face a particularly high risk of poverty at 30.3%, while single parents face a risk of 28.9%.

“The fact that older people—after a long working life—and households with children are particularly affected highlights the existing shortcomings in the welfare state. Implementing further cuts does not combat crises; it exacerbates them,” Rock warned.

German Poverty Level Threshold for Single Income:
€1,446 per month x 12 months = €17,352 per year
$1,683 per month x 12 months = $20,196 per year

GERMAN NEWS ~ CDU sends quit booklet to AfD lawmakers

Germany's ruling Christian Democrats Union (CDU) have sent a booklet to all lawmakers from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) that contains sharp criticism of the anti-immigrant party, as well as a sample letter for members to quit the AfD.

The AfD parliamentary group confirmed on Thursday that its members had received the booklet and the letter.

The CDU brochure, in which the party of Chancellor Friedrich Merz details the perceived dangers emanating from the AfD across some 30 pages, caused a stir last week.

AfD parliamentary director Bernd Baumann published a video on social media on May 21 that shows him picking up a copy at the CDU's party headquarters in Berlin.

Holding up the booklet outside the CDU headquarters, Baumann said the text was "full of lies and fake news," adding that he couldn't believe the CDU was distributing it.

A CDU spokeswoman confirmed that the party had since sent copies to all AfD lawmakers.

Germany's main conservative party, which leads the current governing coalition, has been repeatedly surpassed by the far-right party in recent nationwide polls.

An INSA survey earlier this month put the AfD first at a record 29%, the highest figure ever recorded for the party at national level, while the conservatives dropped to 22%, their weakest showing in an INSA poll in over four years.

In a country that continues to be deeply scarred by the memory of N**i rule and the Holocaust, the rise of the AfD has been viewed with major concern by Germany's mainstream parties, who have all vowed not to cooperate with the far-right party, a strategy known as maintaining a firewall.

===================

The booklet is available for download on the CDU website. The spokeswoman said more than 25,000 free print copies have already been ordered via the CDU party's online shop, with the party having to order reprints several times due to the sustained demand.

The Afd wants to deport migrants, while the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is the governing body that allowed the invasion of Germany. The EU (Denmark, Greece, Austria and Netherlands) are currently working on passing laws to allow easier migrant deportations.

To some Germans it appears that the AfD is on the side of the German citizens who want to deport migrants, while Angela Merkel and Friedrich Merz both belong to the CDU, they are the cause of this overwhelming migrant crisis. Take a good look at who is pointing the finger at who. It's ridiculous !

GERMAN NEWS ~ EU paves way to allow migrant deportations to centres outside bloc

European Union lawmakers and governments agreed on Monday on new rules allowing countries to send migrants ordered to leave the bloc to centres in third countries, a move that has drawn sharp criticism from rights groups ‌that warn it could enable abuses.

The deal is part of a broader tightening of EU migration policy amid pressure from right-wing ‌parties, even as irregular arrivals fell 26% last year to their lowest level since 2021.

The legislation, which still requires formal approval by EU governments and the European Parliament, was proposed by the European Commission last year. The commission says it would streamline procedures and give governments more tools to deport people while respecting fundamental rights.

Rights groups dispute that assessment.

"This Regulation is going to create a draconian detention and deportation machine," said Silvia Carta, advocacy officer at the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), a human rights organisation.

EU countries say they struggle to ensure that rejected asylum seekers and visa overstayers leave their territory. The commission says only about ‌20% of people ordered to leave currently depart.

Under the new rules, EU states would be able to establish so-called "return hubs" outside the bloc for people whose asylum claims have been rejected or who have been ordered to leave the EU. Deportees could be sent to hubs in countries they do not have connections to.

"With the new rules, we have more control over who can come to the EU, who can stay, and who needs to leave,” said European Commissioner Magnus Brunner.

Member states have not disclosed the potential host countries.

HOME RAIDS

The draft legislation extends detention periods and introduces penalties, including entry bans, fines and possible criminal sanctions for non-cooperation.

Authorities would be allowed to seize belongings, detain minors, collect biometric data and search homes.

The deal also allows authorities to ‌search migrants and "relevant premises", a term that rights groups criticise as being overly broad and enabling home raids.

Human rights activists and non-governmental organisations working with asylum seekers in the EU say some of the practices are already occurring and have increased in recent months, pointing to a rise in deportations of recognised refugees from Germany and other states to Greece and other EU border countries.

There, they say, in some cases authorities carry out night-time home searches to detain people and transfer them to detention centres or airports for deportation, sometimes without allowing them to gather their belongings.

Minos Mouzourakis, a lawyer ‌and advocacy officer at Greece-based non-profit Refugee Support Aegean, warned the draft legislation amounted to “a recipe for extremely damaging and extremely dangerous practices” in Europe.

French Greens lawmaker Mélissa Camara said: "The legalisation of return hubs outside the European Union, the green light for the detention of minors, home visits inspired by (U.S.) ICE practices: The legal arsenal serving a xenophobic ideology ‌is now complete."

Some EU countries have already begun exploring such arrangements.

The Netherlands is working with Denmark, Germany, Greece and Austria to set up joint return and transit hubs, while bilateral talks with Uganda on a similar arrangement have been put on hold.

The Dutch government says it wants concrete steps by year-end, as it faces what Prime Minister Rob Jetten has called an “asylum crisis”.

Dutch reception centres are overcrowded — including the main registration ‌hub Ter Apel, which has begun admitting only the most vulnerable — while anti-migration protests have emerged in areas hosting emergency shelters amid capacity shortages and a slow outflow of asylum seekers.

Zuckerhut Hildesheim

The city of Hildesheim is one of the oldest cities in Saxony Germany. It was the seat of Prince-Bishopric of Hildesheim and the Holy Roman Empire 1,211 years ago in the year 815.

The original Umgestülpte Zuckerhut (Upside Down Sugar Hat) Fachwerkhaus (half-timber house) was built between 1500 and 1510.

The Zuckerhut was completely destroyed during World War II by British Royal Air Force (RAF) incendiary aerial bombs on March 22, 1945. That bombing raid destroyed 600 of the 800 medieval half-timber houses in the Altstadt (old town).

Between 2009 and 2010 the Zuckerhut building was reconstructed using the original design for a total cost of 1,500,000 Euros ($1,745,287 USD).

The ground floor of the half-timber house has a floor area of 17 square meters (183 square feet), while the second floor has an area of 29 square meters (312 square feet), making it an inverted conical shape.

This construction shape was a very clever trick of homeowners in the Middle Ages because it saved on property taxes, since the taxes were calculated based on the foundation floor area, and not the floors above it.

Today, the new building is used as a Café.

What are the German National Flag colors?

German (English) Meaning
-----------------------------
Schwarz (Black) - Struggle and Determination
Rot (Red) - Bravery and Strength
Gold (Gold) - Freedom and Hope

These three colors came from the Lützow Freikorps (Lützow Free Corps) they fought against Napoleon of France for freedom and unity of Germany 1813-1815. Their uniforms, tunics and pants, were Black with Red piping (trim) on the collar, cuffs, epaulets, and the front edge of the tunic. Their tunic had two vertical rows of Gold brass buttons.

These three colors were used on the flag of the Deutscher Bund (German Confederation) from 1848 to 1849, and again by the Weimar Republic from 1919 to 1933.

After World War II the three colors were reintroduced by the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 and are still used today.
