An autumn that blooms like spring!
Dear Friends of Golden Sunbeams
After a long and exceptionally hot summer, we are grateful that milder days are finally arriving. The occasional rain brings noticeable relief – the soil is no longer so dry and hard, and nature is visibly beginning to breathe a sigh of relief.
With every drop of rain, a bit of life returns – almost as if spring is knocking on our door a second time. For us, this means a long-awaited new beginning: We can finally start revitalising our vegetable gardens in Nomzamo and Sir Lowry’s Pass with new seedlings. We are embarking on this important phase with renewed energy and optimism.
On Friday, April 24, 2026, the day finally arrived, and we were able to receive our order, which we had placed on March 1st. We received vegetable seedlings of spinach, broccoli, kale, beetroot, spring onions, leeks, and lettuce.
After the car was packed full with trays of vegetable seedlings, we drove to our EmfundiSweni Pre-School in the township of Nomzamo.
Once there, we met the children during their sports activities. Nomalizo, the principal, was delighted and happy about the many different types of vegetables. Everyone immediately pitched in: Together we unloaded the numerous seedlings and before they were planted in the large vegetable garden, the children from Nomalizo received an interesting lesson about the different types of vegetables.
Our second stop was the Kingdom Kids Edu-Care Centre in the township of Sir Lowry’s Pass, which also has a large vegetable garden. The principal, Edith, was very pleased with our generous donation of vegetable seedlings. Edith receives support from her mother Zelna, who can always count on diligent helpers in her garden.
Just before we delivered our seedlings, the Kingdom Kids Edu-Care Centre in the township of Sir Lowry’s Pass was delighted to receive a very special donation.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Sabine and Thomas Braun! Their generous donation of toys and watercolours brought great joy to the children. We, Edith, Zelna and the children are incredibly grateful.
Our Loflands Day-Care school in the Rusthof township doesn't have much space, but June, the principal also loves gardening. We're always amazed at what she manages to grow on this small patch of land. June can't do much with the large trays of seedlings; they're much too big for her little garden plot. For this reason, we always order small mixed trays with a variety of vegetables for her. June is always very grateful when we bring her our seedlings. It is lovely to see how she passes on her gardening skills and love for plants, to the children and involves them in gardening activities.
We received a call for help from our Playway Edu-Care Centre at Helderzicht, after the wooden jungle gym had become rotten in some places and no longer offered the necessary safety for the children, we renovated the play area completely. The feeling of spring is now spreading in our Playway Edu-Care Centre, and everything has been carefully repaired and is safe to use again. In addition, we took the opportunity to further enhance the play area: Artificial grass was laid in several places, which not only creates a friendly, fresh atmosphere visually, but also provides the children with a pleasantly soft and safe surface to play on.
Our Covenant Kids Edu-Care Centre in Rusthof township had also asked for support – this time not for the outdoor area, but for the indoor area. With winter approaching and the days getting colder and wetter, Chrizell, the principal had a wonderful idea: the wooden partitions should be decorated in a child-friendly and colourful way.
We were immediately enthusiastic about this idea and were happy to support the project financially. The result is truly impressive! Now, many colourful and friendly motifs inside ensure that the children can enjoy a warm and cheerful environment even on cold, rainy days.
We wish you a continued beautiful spring in Europe and warm, bright days full of sunshine. Here in autumn, we experience these special spring moments time and again: when the vegetation blooms and the air is filled with new life – almost as if there's a hint of spring in the air!
Warm regards
Yours
Britta and Claudia
