September is the month when children go back to school, but what kind of school system does Germany have? There are different types of schools in Germany, which we’ll show you in the next few weeks. Today we’ll start with some general information. Going to school is mandatory in Germany from the age of six and homeschooling is not allowed. All children and teenagers must attend a school full-time for nine years. After nine years, they can leave school or carry on. Most children go to a state school which is free of charge. In the FRM region you’ll also find a lot of international and bilingual schools which charge a fee. On our website you’ll find more detailed information, so check it out!
