Today's spotlight in our series Typical German is on starting a new job and the one very specific cultural expectation, the so-called 'Einstand'. For everyone outside of Germany, this is the moment when the new colleague brings food, snacks, cake, or drinks to the office to properly introduce themselves. The tradition goes back to old German customs where newcomers would symbolically 'buy' their way into a group by contributing something to the community. It's also the perfect icebreaker if you’re new – a social integration powered by baked goods. So if you’re starting a new job and want to score some extra points, better not forget the cake.

Spring is finally here – the perfect time to discover the beautiful FRM region on foot. On today’s hiking trail you will discover the three highest peaks of the Taunus - the Großer Feldberg (881m), the Kleiner Feldberg (826m) and the Altkönig (798m). This circular hike heads across the top of the Rhenish Slate Mountains. The starting point is the Große Kurve hikers' car park. From here, the trail first heads north towards the Sandplacken pass before turning west at the Teufelsquartier and heading for the Großer Feldberg, the highest peak in the Rhenish Slate Mountains, where you can enjoy a wonderful view. From the Großer Feldberg, the Three Summits Tour leads south parallel to the Hochtaunus Road to the little brother of the Feldberg, continuing through the Neuwald forest over the Fuchstanz pass to your final destination - the Altkönig.
