HMS Sheffield was struck by an AM39 Exocet missile on 4 May 1982 during the Falklands War in the South Atlantic. The missile was launched from a Dassault-Breguet Super Étendard operated by the Argentine Navy, with two Exocets fired in the attack. One missile hit Sheffield on the starboard side approximately amidships, near the operations room and machinery spaces, causing a devastating impact and igniting severe internal fires that rapidly spread through the ship’s compartments, ultimately leading to the loss of the vessel days later.⚓🕊
